Commented: if plants are rootbound, can they survive...Absolutely. See below for a rather extreme example. This plant will be just fine although it is not appreciating the cold/wet weather this week. Tomatoes are very resilient plants.

Commented: What kind for the south for fried green?Since taste isn't an issue, I would just go with seeds from any generic grocery store beefsteak. You know if they are carried in a grocery store, they are gonna be prolific.
