Hello there! Just got back from my final outing at Valley of Fire, Nevada. Headin up to higher country as spring is moving upwards in elevation along the upper Mojave/Colorado Plateau. I will follow the good weather all the way up to the north rim of the Grand Canyon by mid

May. It's fun to hit the great weather depending on the elevation.

I stayed out of the park along Lake meade wilderness area in my truck. I hiked along a dry, lonely, wash filled with catclaw- a mean, unforgiving desert scrub tree that has hidden spines that protrude backward and look just like a cat's claws. thousands of them... ouch!

Once out of the wash, I was climbing the hill country; dotted with barrel cactus and blooming prickly pear cactus.

Some folks around here make jelly out of the fruit.

Sorta like weak strawberry syrup...

Lots of wildflowers blooming.

Ever see Prickly Pear bloom? it's something else.

here ya go.

If you are ever in this area and the state campgrounds are full, there are literally miles of open mesas and range land overlooking the north shores of Lake Meade.

Big sky country!

I will keep the pictures til 17th of April before I scramble up the crags of the Virgin River Gorge in Northern Arizona.

Take care, Spring is coming! Yahoo!
