Hello all...I'm looking at buying a new LED Flashlight for my husband. What kind is best? Do they last a long time? I've always used the regular kind and have never had any problems...

Here is a link that might be useful: LED Flashlight

Is there a Home Depot near you? Mine are outside at the moment and I forget the name, but I got one at Home Depot that I really like. It was in the $20 range, and about 80 lumens or more. AAA batteries. Short and stocky little LED flashlight. Even bought a second one, since it did so well.

I read with it camping, or walk at night in campgrounds, etc.. One night, helping in Redwood National Park to measure a redwood, we got out late, scaling a hillside to a horsetrail on top. The sunset, and we hiked out using that flashlight. Lasted a long time on the AAA's. I'd never go with less than 70 lumens or so. That one was pretty good for the money.

Do not buy this dishwasher. The motherboard in this unit is a hunk of junk. Purchased the dishwasher 10/08/10 from Lowes with an extended warrantee. Since I have owned this dishwasher, it's been replaced once, plus an additional replacement of FIVE main motherboards. Taking multiple days off from work, (for a four hour window) only to find out that the dishwasher needs another repair because of the faulty motherboard. The latest one was replaced a week ago, and it's already not working. In the dark of night I have to go out with my flashlight, and trip the switch on my circuit breaker, just to get it to work. It can take several tries to power it up. It's ridiculous! I've called Samsung and spoke with customer relations, but all they tell me to do is contact the extended warrantee company, (through Lowe's). When I talk with the extended warrantee company, they say they were instructed by Samsung to keep replacing the board. If you google Samsung, and this motherboard problem associated with this dishwasher, the internet is loaded with complaints on this same issue. I asked what exactly deems a dishwasher a lemon? All they could say is that, "it's multiple issues over the second year of ownership. What??? Samsung knows there is an issue with this dishwasher, yet no customer service to correct or credit me towards a reliable product. Replacing one faulty motherboard, with another known faulty motherboard is not customer service. I am extremely disappointed in the direction of the quality that the Samsung product is going. This comes from a homeowner who has multiple Samsung products in their home. TV's, Blue Ray, Fridge, Washer and Dryer. I will have to go another direction next time I'm in the market for electronics, or a major appliance. Mean while, the powers that be at Samsung think it's ok for consumers to buy their expensive products, run out to the circuit box, trip the circuit several times, hope that they can power up their dishwasher, and cross their fingers that they don't have to wash their dishes... yet again by hand.

Office Depot has a samll flashlight for sale at less than $5. It has maybe 7 LEDs, fits in the palm of your hand, and runs on 3 AAA batteries. It appears to be well constructed (for a cheap unit); the switch works good. The body is anodized aluminum and is available in several colors via anodized colors. It is not as powerful as a lagrger light, but is bright and lights up a very useable area near the user. A wrist strap is included. I do know know how long it will run on one set of batteries. I know it must be more than 2 hours. I used mine while doing a plumbing under the kitchen sink and the total on-time must have been 2 hours. It small size was handy for that cramped job. It is right sized for walking at night. It is easy to turn on and shine down in front of you to warn on comming traffic of your presence. Should work for pouper scouping as well. For larger jobs, I have a Craftsman brand flashlight sold in Ace Hardware stores. It uses 2 d-sized batteries and has a single, more powerful LED. The beam is fairly tightly focused and can light up targets 25 to 50 feet away. The body is anodized aluminum This is my light of choice to keep in my vehicles.

Thanks for the advice on timing for control, and the link. I will get rid of my traps and look into what to use as grub control for August... If anyone has insight on what product has worked best for them or greatly appreciate hearing it. One confusion for me is that while I'm seeing a decent amount of both japanese and oriental beetles, it seems that *most* of what I have out there is a brown, similarly-sized beetle that looks like a chafer, from the pics I see online. That's what's mostly on my daisies and coleus. And yet according to the above link, "Adults do not feed so not found at lights or plants." Hmmm... Seems also that chafers respond differently to controls, which would obviously present a problem with treating. Last thought is that if these adult beetles travel like I'm reading they do, I wonder how much difference even the best grub control will make. I'm only able to treat my little yard after all. Sounds like maybe there IS no great answer...

I have a Streamlight Septor, which is an LED headlamp with 7 LEDs and 3 brightness settings. The lower brightness settings conserve battery power, which I like.

From *my* experience, the best overall LED flashlight I've tried so far is the 9-volt Pak-Lite.

I have the "Pak-Lite Basic" that I keep on my person pretty much at all times, and I've given a few to family and friends as birthday gifts. What I really like is how it has two brightness settings, it's really durable (yeah, I've dropped it a few times, on blacktop and cement), and even on a dollar-store cheapo battery it just goes-n-goes-n-goes... Of course I'm not leaving it on 24-7, but still,...! Additionally, the cap glows in the dark and comes with a 10 year warranty. It also comes in different flavors (Super, Ultra, IR, Assorted colors and cap glow duration). Oh,...and they're not prohibitively expensive. - I also rather like DealExtreme's 22000mcd Bright White LED Keychain Flashlights (10 pack for $4.58 - no S&H charge). They're not just squeeze lights, they also feature slide switches to keep the light on continuously. They come in several case colors. I have numerous of these in assorted colors that I include in GW "Seed Exchange" round robin boxes and they're always appreciated for their longevity and incredible brightness. Often, on DealExtreme, one may also aquire batteries for these keychain lights that are actually under the cost of the lights themselves. Great for first aid kits, gloveboxes and emergency car kits.
