Fox, Chicken, Seeds

A camper, needing to safely cross a river with a FOX, a CHICKEN, and a sack of SEEDS; (one item at a time in a canoe) is perplexed. Can't leave certain combinations together unsupervised. The fox will eat the chicken.

The Chicken will eat the sack of seeds.

So, how does this camper cross the river, one item at a time, and safely get the Fox, the chicken, and the sack of seeds to the other side?

This may be too easy for some of you. For, you are very smart, seasoned campers who have probably had to do this at one time or another.

Perhaps, ask your children this on the way up to your next campsite and see what answers transpire?

Well, first trip, you take them all across! Then you leave the seeds, and take fox and chicken back to the first side. then you leave the chicken and take the fox across!
And then you go back and get the chicken and take it across! The theory behind taking the seeds and then the fox is readily apparent! The fox won't eat the seeds, and you won't have to leave the chicken with the seeds or with the fox!
How 'bout that?

but, i must confess--that question was sent to me 6 months ago by a friend! And, i spent some time getting it right!
but it is fun to ask these things--makes yer mind work!

1. Take the chicken and drop it off. Go back.

2. Take the Fox and drop it off. Pick up the chicken and take it back leaving the fox alone.

3. Take the seeds and drop them off with the fox. Leaveing the chicken behind.

4. Go back and get the chicken.

Not sure, but I read an interesting article recently about flaxseed... Flaxseed releases cyanide when soaked. It also says its released when ground--but if you don't grind, they just pass through... It says it would take 11 lbs of flaxseed soaked in water for 3 hrs to kill a horse. It does say that ground flaxseed has the most benefit... and that boiling it for 10 minutes will destroy the glycosidase enzyme so no cyanide can be produced.

None I can think of. I used to keep chickens. They do a lot better if you let them run free than coop them. You need a large run and something for them to do or they may cannibalize each other.

Feeding banana seeds to chickens

I've never heard of feeding banana seeds to chickens. If the seeds were small enoughthey would prob eat it though lol. I imagine it would have potassium in it? Not sure what all else or if it would even be good for them. Mostly the decorative types of bananas only produce seeds. I have read that the Musella lasiocarpa(chinese yellow banana) is used for fodder for pigs in China, but I don't know if the seeds are included. ~SJN

I know you can do the foxglove and poppy seeds now. Not sure about the penstemon though. I usually let mine self seed, all of the above. The foxglove is a biannual, so the first yr. it makes the foliage, then the next yr. it will flower, and you will have seeds all over. The poppy will flower next yr. Darlene

you all are way smart! Still, this is a good one for the kids on a long ride or a campout that needs a "spark"

Out west, in the desert, the rivers are like small streams in the rest of the country. So, my desert friends had this answer:

1. "Why, the river is shallow, so just carry all three to the other side. No Need fer a boat!"

2. "What river?" It dried up years ago... just carry them all over." "The story is told of a river that flowed, made me sad to think it was dead..."

3. "The river is not even wide enough to worry about. Just toss the fox, the seeds across and carry the chicken to the other side....what's so hard about that?"

too funny, I forgot. my desert folks don't "relate" to what a river is. They spouted these answers right away!
