New supplies for this summer?

This is around the time of year I really get the bug to go camping! This is the first year that I really can't think of much I have to purchase! My french presses broke last summer after many years of use but I already bought new ones in the fall. I already purchased my daughter's new tent (after she broke the zipper in her other one--one too many times!) in the fall as well! I think the only thing I need to check are tent stakes but I'm sure I have a ton of them as well! I used a bunch at the cemetary to hold grave decorations down for Christmas and was unable to make it back to retrieve them all!

What purchases are people thinking of for this year?

At the very end of last season we purchased a new tent, a Eureka. Haven't even taken in out of the box yet (meant to, just never got around to it). It's significantly larger than our previous tent, probably more space than we'll need but what the heck.

I'm REALLY looking forward to camping, unfortunately it's a few months away for us. In the meantime I have lots of pictures from previous trips to look at when I get really antsy.

(And yes, we will be putting the tent up in our back yard before taking it anywhere, just in case there's anything broken, missing etc.!)

Gentian, the new tent I purchased was the Eureka Sunrise 9. It's not real big but big enough for my daughter and a friend! She is really rough on zippers and I know that if she breaks this one Eureka will fix it at a reasonable price. The last tent I sent (last year) was a fairly good size tent and they only charged me $20 for the new zipper! The one that was hers that she broke for the final time last year was an inexpensive one (Wenzel I believe) that she used for two entire summers so it wasn't too hard of a decision to just get a new one!

Hi and welcome. Do you know what kind your plants are? I think our resident North Carolinian is Mona. She is a regular poster and will be able to give great advice tailored to your locale. Fertilizers can be made as complex or simple as you want it. As you get more comfortable with your new Plumerias you can always experiment with other fertilizers but for right now I would look for a more forgiving balanced fertilizer such as Osmacote 14-14-14 or use what you have and adjust longer the application schedule AND cut the dosage down by at least half to prevent salt build up in your soil. Leaves turning brown from the bottom of the plant are easily surmised as they are done and the plant no longer has use for them. If it continues past the bottom most leaves then it could be other issues such as too much or too little water. The best thing is be consistent and observe then adjust until you come up with your sweetspot. Good luck.

Starving of other fixtures is entirely dependent upon how much water is exiting each faucet. The size of the line to your manifold will have a much smaller effect than the number of fixtures you are using at the same time. That said - follow code as it is there for a reason.

Surfas Restaurant Supply to be demolished for new HBO offices

I frequently go to Surfas Restaurant Supply in Culver City, not only for kitchen supplies but also for certain food items. However, the site that it is on is scheduled to be demolished for new HBO offices, and I do not even watch HBO. The article says that Surfas will open again in the same location, but it looks like it will be out of business during the demolition until the new offices are completed :(. I guess I need to stock up on what I buy there. This is not the first time that Surfas has had to move, but the last time, they only moved a couple of blocks and were not closed for any significant time. I don't know how I will feel about going into an HBO building to get to Surfas. As an aside, the Metro Rail will soon be opening a new Metro station very close to my house, and to do so, they will block a street that I use to get to work. The detour to work will not be horrible, but the commute back will take me twice as long with the street closure. But, perhaps by the 2028 Olympics, the Metro system might be beneficial for me, if I am not too old to use it by then.

Well Jen, as I've been posting and carrying on about tents ...

Finally found the Coleman Exponent Vagabond tent I had been searching for. It's a 9'X 9' (6' interior height) and has the rain fly that goes all the way to the ground. A little more snug then the Sunrise9 that happened to mysteriously disappear on me last summer. Now, I like this size tent. Big enough for two people, can stand up in the thing to put my britches on (or get a cramp out of my leg!) - and easy to set-up and not too much weight. Looking forward to giving it a try this upcoming season. Had picked up a Coleman Exponent Ocala before I found the Vagabond, so gave that tent to a family for Christmas.

But I liked my Eureka Sunrise9, think it was a well made tent, and would still have it had it not been for the aliens.
