I wish you have this opportunity one's in your lifetime....any bird for that matter, it's such a learning experience and the appreciation of nature.
The last picture above was from last evening, two birds were going away from their nest about 2 feet....but then going back again.
I knew that the time has come, too bad I had to go to work today but this evening I went out, [acreage, about 10 min. away from home] and checked, sure enough, all gone but a flat nest like a pancake! LOL
I went looking all over the place and found nothing, a little later I herd the parents on top of the look out tree, the same tree they usually stay before deciding what to do, so I watched them,..they flew sort of in the same direction, about 20 yards away from nest into the willow bush....as you see. Right now most of the food is berries, mostly Saskatoon's, they are ready now, I have several bushes but this only pair of Waxwing I have now, never touched them as far as I know, they usually fly away, this area has a lot of it, sometimes they feed insects.
As you see, I build a little blind, made a very light A frame, the A can be raised or lowered, so I went in and walked with it toward the willow bush, this time I put the extender on the 200 mm lens for more reach [400 mm]

Just amazing! Those pictures are incredible! It is so nice to catch a glimpse of the family life of this beautiful bird. The fledglings are so cute (course all fledglings are cute :).

I'm very surprised,... this only seen in Waxwings, the youngsters are sticking together very
tightly,....must be a very social bird, this picture a couple of day's later, high up in a poplar tree, about 100 yards from the nest.
Caught one of the adult in the Saskatoon bush.

I keep stopping by this thread to see the wonderful photos of the adult tenderly caring for the irresistible babies - but all those gaping mouths caused a small problem for me.

I had a dentist appointment soon after viewing the pics and I started thinking of what we look like to a dentist, with our mouths wide open. Do they ever get the urge to drop a worm in our mouths? I'm afraid I'll never go to a dentist again without thinking about this.
