All.....My friend sent me this picture of these amazing birds in the process of buidling their nest. Can someone identify what kind of birds they are? Thanks, Barb

It would help to know where these birds are located. Just general area and country.

It may be a interspecific (gardenii or caulescense X miniata) but I do not think it is a pure pendulous species as the flower looks bigger, it is standing up more and flares open which makes me think there is some miniata genes. I stand open to correction.

This plant is growing in the subtropics, i grew some bamboo from seed 5 years ago, and this went into the ground 2to3 years ago and has only been sending up 1 culm a year, The seeds i bought were two varieties, bambusa lako and himalayacalamus falconeri, all the labels got mixed up in house mouse, i hope this helps, Currently the bamboo is around 2 metres, goimg by other ones that have grown it may go 8to10 metres in height Thank ypu for your help

Where are you? That info will be important in deciding ID. Also, IME many oak seedling leaves don't necessarily look exactly like those of more mature plants, so if you have other acorns or can clearly describe size, shape, and color pattern of the acorns or can take a photo of the tree the acorns came from, you may get a more certain ID. Also, simply trimming the original photo doesn't help. We can't see details and there are many, many species of oaks in the US (if that is where you are.) Yours appears to be in the red oak group (pointed leaf tips) though I can't be 100% sure from the photos with the light behind them, but that is still a lot of possibilities, so any additional information you can give will help.

Thank you guys, it was only there temporarily, its on an curtain rail now (we don't draw the curtains) so it gets lots of light, but no direct sunlight, also it's quite high up so no hazard of knocking it haha. I had about 10 leaves in the bottom of the bag so i've popped them onto some soil in a spare pot and they've already started roooting.

I just googled Furnarius rufus, the Red Ovenbird.

"The nest of the species is typical for the genus, a large thick clay "oven" placed on a tree, or man made structures such as fenceposts, telephone poles or buildings".

I wondered if this was a similar nest for the Ovenbird found here, and according to the Birds of North America Online site,

"The resemblance of the nest to a dome-shaped oven is the source of their common name."

All new to me, thanks, oldned, for the ID.

Our Ovenbird is a Warbler, unrelated to the Red Ovenbird of South America.

Here's a photo of our Ovenbirds' nest (from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology)
