Looked up chipping sparrow and mine is even smaller than that.

Any distinguishable field marks? Like, perhaps some yellow on its wings?

Also, what does it feed on?

No field marks at all. Has been eating sunflowers seeds from my feeder for a week. I think the sound is more a chip than a chirp. Really has the coloring of a sparrows back but no white or yellow. Maybe two inches.

Could be a female Blue-black Garssquit or some other type of Grassquit.

Let's see, 1/4 the size of a sparrow, I think I see a wing bar in that pic. Kinglet, perhaps?

The wingbar and tail look like female goldfinch, but they would look a little yellow. I've never seen a kinglet at a feeder, but we only have them in winter and I don't know their summer habits.
The hummers are listed at 3 1/4 to over 4 inches, are you sure about the size? Chipping sparrows are really very small.

Kinglets primarily eat bugs. Grassquits breed only as far north as Mexico. There are no two inch birds. Size is frustratingly difficult to judge.

Pine Siskins are pretty small but do not prefer sunflower seed. Common Redpolls are too far north by June.

The bird in this photo looks almost like a Junco (Juncos are actually sparrow-sized), yet you describe it as having typical sparrow-colored plumage (which implies brown streaked). Definitely doesn't show that in this pic. Perhaps you can get a better one.

went outside and found these markings on wing. Actually yellow in color. Bird is two inches big.

The yellow lines on the wings make me think pine sisken, they are tiny birds, too, and love sunflower seed when they're down south. I've never seen fledglings and don't know when they nest, it seemed like they were all down here till mid May, eating us out of house and home! Fledglings are often hard to identify, but are usually as large as their parents if not slightly larger, the parents feed them up to help them survive .

Did you even refer to the Pine Siskin link up there? Might be helpful to do your own reading up.

Gee thanks TMFF! Never would of thought of that..Actually spend time searching all birds on web. Now I'm getting my hubby to help identify them.
