I thank the three of you for your respones. Green when I read your reply about Brain Tumors and Nerve Gas it stiffled my desire to attempt to use the granules. That sounds like an awful thing to have to go through. I want to free my plants of pests but don't want to sacrifice myself in the process. Watergal I was looking for a way to fight off spider mites. DenverPlants suggests using granules after spraying the infected plant with Safer's insecticidal soap. They don't say which granules to use. I am glad I asked here before tying to buy them and use them in the home. Is there anything else that you can recommend that I use. I have sprayed the plants with a homeade remedy of dish liquid and water but I'm not as consistant with the misting as I should be I guess. I was looking for something more potent . Something that I could apply once and awhile that would kill the mites and wouldn't require me to spray every few days. Talpa thanks so much . Grice

Thanks!! It has been quite the learning experience, lol. It has been so difficult to find food for them, and I felt so bad for them when I would see them wander around looking for "better" leaves, when I was out of tender leaves, and didn't have anything better to offer them. One of the cats, maybe third instar, went on a hunger strike for quite a while, he was so weak he was falling off of the old leaf i was trying to get him to eat. Some of them have been easier to please than others, maybe half and half. But the ones that kept wandering around and trying to crawl out of their little habitats, kept me worried. I am thinking that there must not be a GST host plant anywhere else near my house, if the GST chose my sad little dward navel tree to lay eggs on, lol, because when I say it is sad, I mean it, only has foliage on one branch, I think it is damaged from sunburn from what I have found out by researching. I think my tree must have been the last resort around here, haha. THis morning I had just ran out of the last bit of new tender leaves I had, which I got from my mother's neighbor earlier this week, so I am thrilled to know that I can stop worrying about what I am going to feed these guys now, finally!! I have given some of the leaves to a few already, about an hour or two ago, and so far so good!! I do remember that the ones who got sick, got sick almost immediately after they ate the leaves, so I think you must be right Missherry, thanks for all of your advice and info!! You have been so helpful!! I really appreciate it!

Other than supplementing light over the plants, which is good. Overdriving lights turns out to be not that hard. One: You could build a windowbox for the kitchen window. It wouldn't necessarily be a permanent change. No tearing out walls. Just mount an extended bay window setup outside your existing window. You might not be able to use the extra space in the winter, but ironically, the bay window will help insulate your kitchen when it's cold. Two: this is outside the box. In fact, I threw out the box. If you have limited light in your kitchen, you need to squeeze all the lumens out of the available sun. So, you could look up something called Holographic Diffraction Gratings, AKA HOE, Holographic Optical Elements. This is a semi-transparent film also called a suncatcher. I'm thinking of getting some of this stuff for my greenhouse and my own kitchen window shelf. The film catches the light, and diffracts it from bright sunlight to a widespread wash of white light. No shadows. No bright light here, darkness there. Which is good, as really strong light is bad for some plants. You'd put this film in your window and it would spread out the light and redirect it to where the plants are.
