starlings

Hi all,

After many days of not seeing or hearing any blues, I was very happy when, about 3 weeks ago, they reappeared. They seem to "claim" every new nestbox that I put out and they are visiting the feeders regularly. Yes, it has been a happy world around here! (I still find it amazing how attached to these birds I have become.)

Yesterday, I noticed some comotion in the back. It was a starling flying down/to/around a bluebird nestbox. At first it appeared there were 2 blues defending the box, but then out of nowhere were several blues joining in. It all happened so fast. By the time I ran through the house and out the back door, all birds had disappeared.

This morning, there were approximately 12 starlings in the front yard.

I have been reading online about various starling traps and I was preparing to make one. But then I read that the nestbox traps work best during nesting season (makes sense to me). Then I read where some of the hosp traps (like the deluxe repeating sparrow trap) also work for starlings. Anyone have any suggestions regarding starlings? Would I be wasting my time making a nestbox style trap for this time of year? Any help would be appreciated!
