My Fledglings FINALLY

I FINALLY saw my Fledglings! I had gone out of town for 10 days, only days after they fledged and was SO worried about them, because I never saw them or saw the parents take worms to them.

I got home late tuesday night. My friends husband had put out mealies ever morning for me while I was gone!

I ran out yesterday morning to put out mealies and waited for ever it seemed.

Then I saw the TWO babies - looks to be one male and one female.

I saw one go in the feeder but I never saw the other one do that, but he did go and dive bomb bugs in my yard.

I didnt see them at all this morning though, but late this evening I did see Papa, mama and I THINK both fledglings, though they were not really hanging out together as much.

Is this normal to go a day without coming to the feeder?

Congrats on seeing the whole family. I think it is normal for them to some days not eat as much especially if there are plenty of other bugs out there. I see my family of six daily however they NEVER come after about 3-4PM anymore, I think the bugs are pretty plentiful after that time and they don't need what I put out. But boy do they come a begging in the morning! Even the fledglings sit and wait patiently by the feeder for me to put out the worms in the mornings. They fly to a nearby tree when I come out but then they are right back up there as soon as I walk back in the house. Hope you get to see yours often now that you are back, that is so cool that your friends dh put out the worms while you were gone!

Should I put the worms out earlier then you think?
I live in Texas and it is HOT!
I used to put them out early but none came until 9:30 usually on the dot.
But this morning I got up and did that and still have not seen them at all :(
I have a wren ( I think) that has figured out there are mealies there and I have to constantly run it off!
Any Ideas? I use a cage feeder, but this tiny thief gets in there and cleans the plate FAST!
Now what? I will get up earlier if I need to and set out there - but when school starts, it will be back to 9:30 am - since I cant leave them out with that darn wren!
there ARE plenty of insects out here for sure, I just wanted to keep the Blues close in so I can watch.

I'm at awe again with your pictures, as always, I starting to take better pictures as I push my ISO up and shut full aperture, took a bunch Sat. will post them after a few days after these wear off and I can find more time to do it. My second batch, 3 fledglings flew off Sat, I didn't catch them, but sat around most of the day trying to catch them. They left when I went into town for a typical Sat evening meal, I think they were waiting for me to leave anyway. Keith

Thanks everyone, I am just thrilled to have them back in the yard, I thought for sure the parents were going to take them away for good. LOL! Here is another shot I got today even with my dd jumping on the trampoline in the backyard they came in. Sadly I believe there are only three fledglings. That was how many came in and later I saw them in a tree all cuddled up together, so dang cute, but only three. =( What do you think, boy or girl?? Mac60, Bluebirding is an obsession, that is for sure. I just have a Canon S2IS, would love a DSLR but I cannot complain the little IS's get pretty good shots. Debbie, the fledglings were in our yard (but hidden in the wooded area) for the first week +, then the parents took them away for the next week, far away across a hayfield and cornfield to a small wooded area with no houses. They would come back for food but would not bring the babies with them. Until Thursday which would be 2 weeks since they fledged, then the babies followed them and have been following them since. They don't stay in our yard, they keep going back to the fields but they come regularly for food. Donna

I got it! Sorry, just saw this thread... Loved the series, hated the movies (well, hated the first one and decided I wouldn't waste my time & $$ on the others.) I think I started watching it when Leonard Nimoy was on...not sure. I do know I only saw the Barbara Bain/Martin Landau ones in syndication...(I've probably got you beat in the age thing...I'm always the oldest...at the kids' schools, etc. At least those who know how old I am always gasp w/surprise telling me I don't look that old...even if they don't mean it, it feels good to hear it!) Anyway... Congrats on finally getting there! Once it's all done all the angst will be forgotten and you'll be able to revel in your "new" home! Your DH must really love you if he saw what it was doing to you and put his resistance aside for you! Congratulations on that as well!! :-)

sf_treat - how do you like your floor? how is it holding up? I'm looking at some floors from hardwood bargains. the samples are impressive, but I'm in Philadelphia so I'm going to have to pay some pretty hefty shipping. The price is low enough that even with the shipping it will be reasonable compared to some other options, but I'm concerned about ordering something that I basically can't return.
