I stumbled upon this post a few weeks back because I too was really puzzled by the appearance of these tiny black dots sprinkled all over my wall paper, monstera plant, the curtains, and my bedding. They looked like poppy seeds but attached/stuck to the plant, wallpaper, and the fabric. After carefully scraping them off with my fingernail and vacuuming the curtains, I would be astonished to find a new set of dots peppering the same wall all over again a few hours later. I got a bit obsessive over the next couple of days as this really bothered/disgusted me (the plant is right next to my bed/pillow), but eventually I found the culprit (actually on several occasions). It turned out to be a moth, or at least that's what I figured once I saw it. When I researched the internet trying to figure out what these dots/seeds/eggs could be, I passed on the idea of it being moth eggs because in all the photos the eggs were neatly arranged close together, but mine were spread all over the place about 10-50 cms apart 1 egg at a time. During the day, I typically open the windows to air out, sometimes only a bit, so I guess moths must find their way inside the house and then hide themselves very well. I found one hidden in the folds of the curtain. I found a second moth a few days later again in the very corner of the room hidden by the folds of the curtain. I think these suckers are just very good at hiding & camouflaging because my husband and I were carefully screening the folds and looking all over and didn't notice any the previous days. I even watered the plant daily to ensure there weren't any moths or other culprits hiding in there. Unfortunately I continue to periodically find these black pin-sized heads on the same wall and curtain, but I'm less freaked out about it now that I know what it is and much more thorough at looking for the culprits. My advice is to make sure you close the windows and really check all the cracks since they're very good at hiding.

I think the mossy nest does belong to a chickadee, and it is a beautiful nest. I have several different styles of boxes. I have several that I made over the last 3 years. I have 2 that I bought from Walmart that have plexiglass to view the nest. Don't waste your money on these. They are to small. I removed the plexiglass last year. The bluebirds did take to them this year for the first time. I have two houses that my Mother-in-law put up about 25 years ago that have the words "Baily N.C." on them. They are still in good shape. Seem almost indestructable. Something always builds in them. I have several houses by Stokes built to NABS standards. They are one of my favorites. I also have a Gilwood house. It is one of my favorites also. I put it up on a Saturday, went back the next day to check it and a pair of bluebirds had already claimed it and started a nest. The blues really like it. I am very lucky and don't have a big problem with HOSP. I do have a deluxe repeating trap, and a Van Ert in box trap that I use. I have a much bigger problem with starlings getting into my purple martin housing. As a side note, I live in Tennessee. We had a lot of tornadoes go through here today. A tornado went over the hospital were I work, but did not touch down. All we had was hail damage. But the town just a few miles north of us (Murfreesboro) got slammed. Lots of damage, lot of homes destroyed, and some deaths. Those folks need your prayers. More expected through here Sunday night.

Today I found an egg in that nest! It's 2cm long (20.5 mm). According to http://www.sialis.org/eggsizes.htm it could be a Carolina wren or House sparrow. It's larger than the wren and smaller than the sparrow. While investigating, a carolina wren was screaming at me from a near by bush, and it seemed to be very upset with me for being there. It may be his nest or he could have a nest near by. I installed spooker on bluebird house that on this yard. Just in case if this is house sprarrow nest. Babies pretty big in this box. (I wrote abot 4 babies earlier, but I was wrong about quantity) I can't stay on that yard for long to make sure they accepted it because have small baby with me right now. Do you think this is a good idea or I should take it down? This is the box Janie - birds lay one egg in day, and same, as you wrote it earlier, skip a day in egg laying. She starting incubation only after she will lay her last egg. All this time eggs stay cold - up to 10 days if she skipping days and lay 5 egg. I surprised that this is new for you.

Congrats! I assume that you have done your homework since you have a spooker up. Have you been to www.sialis.org? Maybe Mom had a hard time laying that egg? I would leave it and see what hapens.
