Ft.Worth Botanical Gardens Fall Plant Sale

Hey everyone its that time of year again and the Ft.Worth Botanical Gardens is holding its Fall Plant Sale this Saturday 10th from 9am-2pm. They have so much to offer at some really great prices on perennial,native texas plants,shrubs,trees,bulbs & decorative grasses along with plumeria & cacti\succulents and some yard art. free expert advice:

get there *early*.

park as close as you can, but don't waste time looking for a "better" space.

take a little red wagon.

if you think you might like to have something but you aren't sure & you think you'll check it out on your way back through, *grab it*;
it'll be gone before you can blink.

Having said all that, the FWBG Plant Sale is lots of fun, the plants are beautiful & healthy, & the volunteers are knowledgeable & easy to talk to.

Did anyone get a chance to make it out to this years fall sale? Well I did and they had another great crowd this year. I left with two types of rain lilys,crown of thorns and a Thai Red plumeria.

Also. for those who didn't know. If you are a member of a botanical garden , such as Selby, you can use your reciprocal membership benefit to get in to the show for free, as well as you can get in the 30 minutes early as a member. I was able to get in 20 minutes early and scored some cool plants before the crowds.

I go to the sale every year ( my in-laws are big in the Cleburne Iris Society). To get the best selection onf DL you have to be there when it opens and know what you wanting...they go really fast. I got 2 (my usual per year of big $15 ones) Hidden Riches (yelow) and Bubbling Edge. One of the promenent Iris Sellers was selling all his stock at 1/2 the marked price - he only sells 2000 and newer - so this is a wonderful deal. I got Holly Kosmoly, Prince of Tides, Starring, Heartstrings Summer, Creme De Ore and another Rush Hour (my personal favorite). I spent $30 on DL and $14.00 on Iris...cheapest year yet for me, but I'm running out of room! ON a side note...I've been splitting my iris beds over the past few weeks, if anyone else is too and would like to trade I would love to hear from you. I posted under have on the exchange board, but my only responce was someone wanting me to attend their garage/plant sale ather than an interested person in trading. ~angie~

Didn't make it for the first time in 9 years. More expert advice, joint the Fort Worth Botanical Society and you get to go to the plant sale on the Friday before the public sale. Sometimes the members completely clean out particular plant varieties and then on Saturday, the public never even knows what they missed. There are lots of other benefits to membership too. Like free admission to the Japanese Garden and many other botanical gardens around the country. For example, I was in Norfolk last year and was able to visit their garden (admission $7) for free, and got a 15% discount on purchases from the gift shop. Cheryl
