That long pointed bill looks blackbird to me. Looks like the legs are pretty dark; the iris definitely is (consistent with RWBL). I think despite the wet feathers I see a semblance of a facial pattern also consistent with female/juv RWBL. I see no wing pattern at all, though, which is inconsistent with what I expect.
Still, no other alternatives unless I am just not thinking outside of the box. So tough to tell on a wet bird.

Thanks, TMFF. It's reasonable that this is a red-wing fledgling - there's been a male and female pair feeding in the yard since early spring. This would be the hottest day of its life for the baby and I'm glad I'd just changed the water in the birdbath. The bill being constantly open worried me - sign of overheating?

Even with the wet feathers the facial pattern looked red-wing.

I'm still seeing one or two adult males most days, although I haven't seen a female recently. They lurk more, though.

I just found two photos from July 16, 2008 of what I think was a juvenile red-wing. It looked like it was still working on walking - like a kid strutting showing off the new shoes.

Later in the afternoon on the same day that I saw the red-wing in the bath, I saw this bird- maybe the same bird dried off. it was feeding with a female cardinal. It also doesn't have much wing pattern but is more easily identifiable than the soggy bird. I feel more comfortable now with the ID of red-wing.
