There really are a lot of plants out there that look alike, especially when comparing different stages of growth. OK, now when Greenscaper posted his photos above, gabro, you stated Oh yeah, that's my plant alright :) Thanks so much for the right ID. You've changed your mind? ;) New growth and stems on this Ardisia (to be honest, it looks like all 3 ardisias mentioned, humilis, elliptica and squamulosa are synonymous, from what I've read) are known to be 'reddish', but the stems are often reported to be green, as well, so I do think that you have an Ardisia. I had this plant at one time and also gave it away. I did some research on it at that time, as the only Ardisia I was familiar with was crenata. One article mentioned that in South Florida this plant will have reddish stems, but that groups of them growing elsewhere had green stems. With that said, it's obvious that environment plays a part in the coloration of the stems, and likely in the coloration of the leaves that you'd seen pictured as 'reddish' as well. That seems to be true of many plants grown indoors. Choosing from a hat is tempting, isn't it? LOL!! If you've noted lots of new growth and have found it necessary to repot, then you're obviously meeting it's cultural needs.

Oh boy! Spotted Haws are tough, with several diff species & then all the varieties & forms! Do you know for a fact all of these have columnar growth habits? Seems to be true from the pix, but hard to tell sometimes. Col #1: Might be H. coarctata var. tenuis or H. coarctata v. coarctata Col #2: not sure Col #3: Might be H. coarctata fa. chalwinii Check out these species for spotted types: coarctata, kingiana, minima, pumila, reinwardtii Sorry I can't be more definite for you. :(

Feather, our local birding expert also went with female Baltimore at first (he's still studying it and hopes to come see the bird today). I am really surprised. I have not seen female Baltimores this yellow/green and with so little head color. Am I mistaken on that? (obviously so). As for rarity - a Western Tanager is seen in our area about once every 5-10 years and it is always a male. Is that because the females aren't recognized but are thought to be orioles? It is hanging around some with the orioles, certainly loves the grapes. To my mind though, it behaves a bit differently. She seems calmer and less flitty on the feeder poles. When I drove up last night, all the orioles flew away, she did not. We put together this little collage using our pictures of her (mystery bird) and a couple pics stolen off the web (my apologies to whoever took those pics). This definitely sways my mind, but I'll let all of you take a look and see what you think. I need to go search for Baltimore females to see if I find one like our girl.

The top edge seam picture looks like it needs a razor blade to remove the excessive adhesive. There is a visible void at the bottom and that is sloppy work. Any straight edge will tell you if the pieces are on plane. Place it on the top and front edge too. It shouldn't rock in either place. I don't mind Unistrut on the flat, but you don't say how large the span is. Please do so. Lacquer thinner or acetone should remove the ink marks. The suction cup marks should come out. I've heard of using gradually increasing abrasives, but I'd start out with some MB20 and go from there. Some guys use estone slurry, but that's pretty radical. Plywood between the estone and cabinets serves no purpose.
