My 5 bb nestlings have fledged

They started peeking on Sunday. Yesterday they were showing a real interest in the world outside of the nestbox. This morning around 10:15 a.m. I was able to watched 2 fledged one about 10 seconds after the first. There was at least one more left in the nestbox peeking and hanging out of the hole. It wasn't as brave as it's nest mates before it.

The nest is empty now and there was no evidence of blowfly or mites. My nesting season is now over if I go by the past 2 years experiences. I only get 2 nestings a season. Well it was a good year for my BBs.

Congrats! It's sad though, no more Baby Blues untill next year :.( I only get 2 nestings a year also so I only have 8 to 10 more days of having Baby Blues myself. :(

The parents will take the baby up into the trees and feed him there. Sometimes eggs are not fertile and don't hatch. Yes, you can safely remove the nest now.

Cool. I'd be willing to bet that mom and dad Blue will be bringing them to the mealworm feeder within a week. In the mean time, listen for them in the trees. While they're often well hidden, you can usually hear them when mom or dad is nearby with food. My last clutch started bringing their young to the feeder after about 5 days. At first the young would wait to be fed. But they soon learned how to use the feeder themselves.
