Carolina Wren nest on ground

This evening I was planting flowers at the side of my house when I noticed a Carolina Wren nest with four babies in it on the ground next to my neighbor's house. I saw (and heard!) the mother (or maybe it was the father) in a nearby bush, so I didn't go near the nest. Then I began to worry about a neighborhood cat that has been on the prowl every day and night. (In fact, I rescued a baby bunny from the cat's mouth last night!! The bunny appeared unharmed, so I called our local Wildlife Rehabilitation chapter and turned the bunny over to one of their volunteers.) My daughter said she scared the cat away from the area this afternoon before we saw the nest, so it was a matter of time before he found those birds! I didn't know what to do, so I carefully picked up the nest and placed it in some dense boxwoods near the spot where I found it on the ground - I figured the bushes would be strong enough to hold the nest, but not strong enough to hold a cat! It was dark when I moved the nest, so the mother has obviously not found the new location. Now I'm worried I've done the wrong thing. I'm afraid the babies will get cold tonight because it's a bit chilly (do Carolina Wrens sleep in the nest with the babies?), and I'm afraid the mother won't be able to find them in the morning to feed them. That darn cat prowls day and night, so I know he would have gotten them if I hadn't moved the nest, but I'm afraid I did more harm than good. Any advice would be appreciated! (The babies appear to have a lot of feathers and their eyes are open.)
