Thosde are nice pictures!!! Isn't it a real joy to have Blues nesting in your yard? We had one nesting of 5 babies that fledged successfully.I just lost 5 eggs from our second nesting to Hwrens.My yard is full of them and so I donot want to have another family of Blues go through it.The family comes to eat mealies and so I get to enjoy them.

So sorry to hear that Michelle! It is so upsetting to have something happen to your little ones. Our pair had five eggs first off this year. We had one egg not hatch and one baby didnt make it but three went on to fledge. Missy our female made two nests this 2nd time and i wasn't sure which one she would pick. She finally decided on one but she only laid the two eggs instead of five like the first time. They seem to be doing great tho and fattening up pretty fast. Maybe she was thinking of quality instead of quantity. I dont know but im so glad the little ones are doing good. Glad you liked the pictures. I always take them through the windows so there is usually a glare. When i go outside to take their pictures they all fly away. So i just except the fuzzy pictures. LOL...

Thank you Janie! Im just so glad to have blues at this house. I was really upset to leave mine at the other house. I still worry about them. There were a lot of HOSP over there. Just really glad i get to enjoy some bluebirds here too.

My pair of blue birds hatched 6 babies the first clutch and 3 the second clutch with 2 eggs unhatched, and will just have to wait to see what happens with the current 5 eggs. I suspect the current female and male might not be the same pair though since I don't see any fletching around presumming they did survive. Those 2 unhatched eggs will always be in the back of my mind as to why they didn't hatch, am interested in seeing if all the eggs in this current clutch hatchs.

Hi Keith. I had a Robin last year that was so eager to lay her eggs that she wouldnt mate. The male would have to go to the nest chase her off so he could mate her and then she could go lay her egg. It was so funny. She just wanted to lay her eggs and forget about the mating part. He was a very large dark male with a crippled leg from fighting so much. He was very experienced and knew what she was doing. I think it was her first year for nesting. I called him peg leg. He loved raisins. Maybe your female is laying without mating.

Can they do that, On those two unhatched eggs, she laid the first 3 and then skipped a day or two before laying the other two, Those two were the ones that didn't hatch.

Your story of the Robin with the crippled legs reminds me of when I was a teenager, we had a Chickadee or some small bird that lost his leg somehow, He had learn to land on the one leg and balance him self but you can tell he did it with difficulty eventually a few months later he died probably from exhaustion and starvation.

Chickens do it and ducks do it so i guess a bird can do it. I know with our first clutch this year the female laid an egg and then went a few days and laid the rest. When they fledged there was one egg left. It may have been the very first one she laid. Who knows.

How cool Bonnie! So glad you got Blues at your new place. I too thought of your Blues at your old house when you said you moved. I take my pics through the glass all the time. You need to be close to the glass for the best clarity though although I have gotten some good ones when I wasn't. In the early morning depending on how the sun is hitting the window there may be glare but the rest of the day there isn't any.

Hey Donna. In the morning i have glare from the east. Then in the evening i have glare from the west. Well morning and early evening is when the birds are most active. LOL... So i almost always have some kinda glare. At the other house the birds were not so skittish. We lived in the middle of town. Here in the country they freak out so easily. The dogs could run right past the MODO's at the other house and they wouldnt even flinch, just keep pecking at the seed. Here if they even see a movement at the window they are gone in a flash. Im hoping in time they will get better and learn to trust a little bit. Then i will be able to get better pictures. Hopefully! LOL....

Even though I haven't tried one yet with my camera, a polarizing filter will cut some glare,
I've got one but haven't had to resort to one yet, I just might play around with one tomorrow.
