They are GONE

Well they fledged sometime this morning before I got up!

Ahhhhhh I knew I would miss it, but I hope they are OK.

NO sign of Mom and Dad, I fed but they have not shown up.

WIll the parents come back to feed or just go away for good?

Do I clean out the nest now?

Sorry you missed the fledging. :(
But they are most likely fine and in some tall tree nearby.

Yes, your parent birds will probably continue to thank you for your mealies, and also carry them to the fledges. If you watch you may see where they are by following the worms up. After awhile, they may bring them down to your feeder to eat. We've gotten a lot of closeup looks at ours this way.

And yes, you should clean the box and remount it as soon as possible after the little ones fly. It's late in the season and in many places too hot for another nesting... but you never know.

Rats Debbie, I was hoping you would get to see them. Now you have to go out and LISTEN. You may be able to hear them peeping for Mom up in the trees.

I do like it, but....I do think the firebox looks small. I'd say it needs another 12" of total width and height at least. Could they just remove the stone back up to the mantle height, put in a bigger and raised firebox, and then re-finish it off?

yes I am SURE I heard them peeping way up in the tree this morning not too far from here.
not sure, as I have not had a chance to really HEAR them before so know what noise they make, but the parents are coming and eating and flying up to that tree.
I never see them take any worms though, looks as though they are eating them thmeselves so I hope all is ok.
They both come together and take turns at the feeder them fly off together.
I tried to see with binoculars, but the tree is really full and lots of other birds are in it.
It is a Japanese Tallo (sp) tree.

Sorry you missed the fleding Debbie, good to hear you are seeing the adults come for food and going to that tree. I forget are you feeding mealworms or waxworms? Sometimes the adults like to feed the babies higher energy food than the mealworms. I often watch the adults eat the mealworms and then feed the waxworms to the babies. Hope you get to see them soon, I would expect to wait at least a week though before you might get glimpses of them from afar, the parents keep them pretty well hidden until then. I am just now (2 weeks +) seeing the babies regularly.

Thanks Donna, I have only been feeding Meal Worms. Should I get other kinds of food for them?
I Do have the suet treats ( the little balls) but they dont seem to like that much
