Western Kingbirds - birds with 'tudes

They are not common in Phoenix, but they are apparently nesting in the trees near my house in New Mexico. Fluttery things with calls that sound like a dog's squeak-toy.

Compared to mockingbirds, they are less of a jet-fighter swooper and more of a 'dogfighter' in the air. But they have harassed the local ravens enough that they don't even bother to try to fly through.

It landed on the hawk, hung on and started pecking it on the head.

Gotta love a bird that feisty, and I'm glad they aren't any bigger.
