I have learned NOTHING is impossible with the Blues....they may be scouting for the next go around but more likely it is another pair, they may have had an unsuccesful nesting the last time around so are looking for greener pastures! I think this is going on here...not sure. I have a nest with eggs but also have last nestings babies and Pop scouting boxes. I have NO clue what is really going on! I am just happy more Blues are to come!

This is our 2nd year with bluebird boxes and we have 2 boxes. Last year they had 3 broods and they are on their 3rd clutch for this year. For some reason, every time they switch boxes. I've never had 2 pairs - just the same pair that will nest in the box in the backyard, then next time nest in the front - every time they do this! It's usually very soon after the previous brood fledges that they start a new nest.

Malinda had a female that built a new nest (different box) BEFORE her babies fledged! I think she may have even laid an egg or two before the current clutch fledged. I've never had that happen here but it's good to know it can happen.

So..... it may be a different pair or it may be your same pair, checking out a new location because the nest (and maybe one baby) is still in that box. When you clean it out they might go back to that one for round 2.

OK, thanks for the info. I guess I won't know if its the same or a new pair unless the "old" parents start building in one of the three freshly cleaned open houses. The "new" parents (who might be the old parents ) have stayed with the new house and have been taking grass in, so I suspect they will be there for this brood. I'm really pleased about this one - it's the first time any blues have used this particular house or it's pair and these two houses are the only ones I can see easily from the house. I can sit at my kitchen table and watch them, yipppee! And the spotting scope is trained on that house right now, how fun! If they are going to stay there, I may have to try the mealworm feeding.
