omg where is rachel frome ky?????

I just realized I have not seen a post from her in quite some time. She was off to some other Country but I don't remember where. So many disasters have gone on...anybody heard from her? She was so active on this forum!

You are right. We have not been seeing posts from Rachel. We can check her photo page and see if she is actively posting there now. She was in Thailand last I knew. I'll check around.~~A

She dropped out for awhile before if you recall, then came back with a flurry of posts; I imagine this is a similar situation. She's been doing the Twitter thing, I expect with a search of this site one could find her Twitter info.

If I were in Thailand I doubt I'd spend a lot of time in front of a computer-lots of new birds to explore.

When you all talk about suet, do you mean the packaged gooey stuff that goes in the square green wired baskets, or the bell-shaped thingy with seeds all over it? Or something enrirely different?? Terrene, what is a log? Can you post a picture of what you all are talking about? Oh, and I did see the woodpecker yesterday evening, but not at my feeder. He (actually she) was flying from one tree to another. It was funny watching her. On the tree she stopped at, she landed on the trunk and hopped backwards (down the trunk) and then after a little pecking, hopped back upwards.

I'm still trying to get an answer as to why "non-native" birds are "trash", while humans get a free pass. Would anyone like to answer? As far as feeders go, the most signifant reason people have feeders in their yards, birders or non-birders, is for their own entertainment. I could care less how many different types of birds people "get to see" in their yards! Animals do not exist on this earth for the purpose of human entertainment. They are here for their own reasons. As far as rehabbing indivisual birds goes, I have rehabbed several birds who flew into my window and were knocked unconcsious. I do it to help out an animal that needs medical care, which I would do for any aniaml or person I saw injured, not because I want to preserve the existance of some taxonomical abstraction. Sorry but your words sound very callous and cold-hearted. You may not be specifically saying you want Starlings torutured, but your attitude towards them is what has spurned the latest craze I see in the conservation movement, which is this focus on the blaming and killing of other animals in the name of saving "native species" rather than habitiat preservation and drastically reduced consumption of resources. I don't believe it's the place of humans, the most non-native and destructive of them all, to determine which animals live and which ones die, while we do everything to ensure the life of every human is as long and pain-free as possible. It's just plain hypocritical and unethical.

Oh Katieob, One door closes another door opens. I believe your next kitchen is going to be more stunning. Right now it is hard to imagine but it will happen. With your taste, talent, vision and creativity, your next kitchen will be a dream come true. I have been in a similar situation. Not the kitchen but the home. I left a fantastic neighborhood, a dream home, and great schools because of my DH's promotion. It was a hard to say good-bye. And I missed all the little details of my old place. I missed my friends, my garden, my cute little office, my fireplace in the master bed room, tiled patio, pool, living just 20 miles from DC... But, DH and I made the right choice for our family. We moved into a new adventure that got our minds excited. This new place you move to will give you a challenge and ignite your brain. You will make the next kitchen as magnificent (probably more so) then the one you are saying good-bye too. And you are doing this for your family. I think what helped me the most was reminding myself that my family came first. My family and what makes us work as a family was priority. You are doing this for your husband and your children. This will get you through the rough patch. And your sweet new baby will get to part of the transformation of a new place into a stunning kitchen. You can do this. Say good-bye and then say BRING IT ON. Bring on the new possibilities, the new ideas, and the new options and let the joy unfold. ~boxer

I do recall that Orrin. I just checked her Picasa page, and the last photos there are dated 1/29/11. Hmmmmm... I think I will just e-mail her to check and make sure.

Ok, I did e-mail her privately, and she did respond. She is OK. She has been very ill with food poisoning and hasn't been to work where she can use her computer to access the forums. She asked me to post this message to you from her:

Yes, the quick real-time posts to Twitter's Twitpic have me spoiled and I keep telling myself I'll move the photos to the Picasa Web Album, but since this is Thailand and I'm always out birding or at work, it's easy to postpone, then forget. Also, the internet here at the hotel is weak and sporadic at best; i.e., I just posted a response to you here and it didn't go through.
I'll check my album and try some updating today since I've been home, sick, since last Wed., with food poisoning. Up to this point, the internet hasn't been working, and I've been in too poor shape to do it anyway, but able to get around some now."

Me too konrad. She is also having some sort of technical problem with accessing the GW forums. She said she keeps getting an error message that says "Method GET Not Implemented."

Thanks everyone for asking about me. I have actually been in a bad way with food poisoning and a couple of times wondered if I would make it. Angie did some research and said Firefox may be the problem, so I'm going to try Internet Explorer and see if this works. If so, I don't know why Firefox would suddenly not work

Rachel..........I haven't been here in a long time. Did you move to Thailand permanently? Please have your illness checked out. It may be a bacteria that just keeps growing.
