Two Blues Fledged Hopefully

I originally had four eggs, when they hatched, I only saw three nestlings. It is day 18 and I haven't seen the parents feeding so I decided to look In the box. It looks like the one I didn't think hatched, did hatch but never made it long and then there was an older one that had died. These were the only ones in the nest, so it looks like two have fledged. Hope so. I cleaned out the box and will try again.

I'm in the same boat as you! Yesterday I went out to check on the blue bird box to find the babies gone. I stopped opening the box after seeing that there were indeed eggs and just resorted to peeking inside. Fairly sure there were only two babies, and although they disappeared so suddenly, the timing was right. It has been over two weeks since I discovered the eggs. I just hoped to see the fledglings leave, learning to fly, etc. guess that's not how it works. At first I feared a predator. I hope they're ok! What do you think?

Yours probably fledged like mine. I wish I could have seen mine fly too. Some blues are still around though. I have seen an adult, I know, but I can't tell if the other ones are juveniles or not. I cleaned out the box and a house sparrow started coming around, so I left the box open for a few days , hoping he would go away and just closed it today. Hope my blues come back to nest.

My female is sooo focused! First nesting fledged (6) on Thursday May 10th, I got the nestbox cleaned out asap because I know this female is very quick to start the second nesting (she is the same female we had the last two years). She started the second nest on Friday and laid the first egg this morning! I couldn't believe only four days inbetween fledging and laying another egg! Dad is still busy feeding the fledglings which are in our woods, haven't seen any of them yet, hopefully by this coming weekend I will get some glimpses of them and maybe tell how many made it. Two were non flyers so I am not sure about those two, especially with the mom focused on the second nesting and not on her fledglings. Donna

Glad to hear of more success! Sagrinin, like you I had pretty heavy losses this season. 3 adult bluebirds, a brood taken into rehab, 7 or more young died, etc. I ended with 7 bluebirds fledging. The Tree Swallows once again ended on a high note of about 15 fledglings. 7 for the bluebirds I believe is a new low. Sadly, because I was counting on a lot of success this year. Hope you see them again! I've only seen flashes of mine since fledge. This awful heat has probably been to blame. ~Tim~

Congrats on the fledging and the second nesting. I am very anxious for the fledging of our nestlings, because it will be our first successful fledging. I'm also bummed that we will most likely be on vacation when they fledge: we are leaving for a week starting on the 11th, and today is their 8th or 9th day. I have no idea if they will stick around or not...hopefully I can atleast see them once when we get back just to be sure that they made it and are safe. Maybe mine will fledge late so I get to see them, however it is very doubtful since it is late in the season and I'm providing mealworms; I'm really just hoping for healthy fledglings. I think my TRES will be fledging today or tomorrow. I have been seeing heads poking out and hearing a lot of wing-flapping.

misterowl....after egg laying the eggs are incubated for 12-14 days before they hatch. From hatching it takes 16-19 days before they fledge. So from seeing the last egg laid to fledging is 28-33 days, more than a couple weeks. Hard to say if they fledged or if something happened to them unless you know your days for sure. That is why it is a good idea to keep records. Hopefully they actually fledged.
