I planted one this year. I was prepared for blooms that were not the deep purple they showed in photos but more 'wine' in color, so I wasn't disappointed. Regardless, it looks fantastic next to the Honey Dijon I planted to keep it company. It has flushed and quit, and is just resting, I hope, putting out roots. It looks good. I hope to train it on my chainlink fence. It's funny, though, for some reason I had no desire to photograph it while it was blooming, and even now I feel no emotional attachment to it whatsoever.

I personally think decking boards look better on a back door than a front, but it can be done in a way that is appropriate looking for a front, just needs a more formal look. ARe you thinking of doing the work yourselves or hiring someone? If you are hiring someone I would call some places that specialize in front porches and see what their ideas are. Could you replace the concrete with pavers? They have more give an don't crack.

@ebharvey and noseometer..sorry to hear that, our box stores were just like that too. This is the first year, I saw a kordes there. But Walmart here carries a huge variety, you've got to get to them early spring. I got a lot of them from there, regular star performers in my no spray garden: queen elizabeth, Tiffany, Sunsprite, abe lincoln, Don Juan, Rio Samba(l think, lost the label..) and more recent addition which has been flowering non stop(I just planted these about two months ago) Heirloom, Angel and St Joseph's coat. I have to say St. Joseph Coat is delightful, striking colors and always flowering(spiky thorns). I do like to revive plants needing TLC. I digress, my point is you never know what you may find in these stores..it's fun to find an unusual rose.:)

I too ordered the Brindebella Purple Prince from Hirt's, and now I'm wondering whether Hirt's is mistakenly misrepresenting it as the "Purple Prince" rose by Nola Simpson from New Zealand. Anyone know? There is a "Brindebella Purple Prince" sold wholesale by Sun Fire Nurseries in the U.S., and that's what appears to be the rose sold by Hirt's: http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.72335.2&tab=1. I'm certain this is the Hirt's-sold rose, because Hirt's sells another rose from the "Brindebella" line that Sun Fire Nurseries markets. There is a different "Purple Prince" rose bred by Nola Simpson in New Zealand and sold by Style Roses in the U.K. That's the one with the impressive photos, claims of very strong fragrance from 6"-inch blooms. http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.72745&tab=1. But the "Brindebella Purple Prince," according to the info from the patent application that is on HelpMeFind.com, was bread in Australia by Sylvia and John Gray, and the blooms are only 4". Maybe someone at Hirt's marketing team Googled "Purple Prince" and then copied and pasted the info and photos from the Style Roses website in the U.K.? Oh well. The Brindebella looks great too, and the patent application claims "complete" resistance to black spot and strongly fragrant blooms. Sounds good.
