Built a Bird Bath

I waited two generous hours until my camera said no more - so it's charging. Thought I'd show off 'my fancy' bird bath though. :) ) ) ) ) )) )))))

That dish goes nowhere. It comes off easily but it takes muscle to snap it in. I could set a brick on one side and the dish will stay in place.

I would not recommend planting directly in to the soil if you want to maintain some control. My canna go absolutely bezerk in the summer. If I didnt have them confined to pots my entire veggie filter area would be over run after one summer. That being said, my current design is a paaain as it is a bowl with sloped sides. I can't get pots to stay where I want them and getting the height just right for new additions is a pain. I however have a concrete pond, so I cant do any adjustment without new rock/cement When I redo the area I plan on using two pots per plant. One pot will be the place holder that is secure in the ground with rocks that are mortared but with space around for water flow. Then I will just set the plants I want in to the place holders. This way I can pull them out if a plant needs pruning without changing rockwork or bricks I use to hold them up.

Hi, This may be too late to help, but I was wondering whether an umbrella tipped at just the right angle might work, wedged into the top of your fence. I mean by that, to angle the umbrella using its handle so that it covers the nest pretty high over it, but angled so that the mother bird doesn't feel like she is trapped by it or that she can't easily fly to her nest. Probably a child's umbrella would be just right. Or even better, a beach umbrella with the screw attachment for beach chair arms. If no umbrella is available any similar setup might work. I am sure that all this time the mom is covering her babies to keep them warm and safe. Robins nest the way they do because it works for them I guess. But if the rain is really heavy it will be hard for mama too. I don't blame you for trying to help. Good for you for having such a good heart - and good luck!

Bird Feeder With Built-in Microphone

Hi, Im Rob, just joined. I live in Fort wayne, Indiana. One of our bird observation buildings has a microphone hanging under the eve or the roof and picks up everything in the feeding area. The microphone wasnt made for a feeder but works well to pick up the whole area. we have a little computer speaker with a volume knob inside. Have you ever used bird audio to attract or call birds? this is very interesting. I do it several ways. One is by putting my computer speakers outside the patio doors and playing bird calls. They come! Some respond better than others and the season plays a role in how well they respond. Here is a good link for calls: http://www.enature.com Another way is, I purchased a bird guide (book)with a little speaker on it. You can pick it up at any Barnes and Noble or other good book store. Walk through the woods and play a White breasted Nuthatch and see how many will practically land on your head! I have the bar code scanning wand as well. Works great! Posting Photos to GW:

Join photobucket.com (it's free) - create a folder - select upload photos (several "formats" such as multiple or new uploader or old uploader, etc-) - transfer your photos from the name of the folder you created in your "My Documents" - "My Pictures" - and then select, upload. . .Now your photos are on photobucket. Left & Right click your mouse on the third string of characters, "line" underneath each photograph, select "copy" and then > add that string of characters here in the Message Box (that we all type in). And wham, you click on the blue box called, "Preview Message" - and you'll see your photo - along with any text you may have typed.

Tom, I watched a lot yesterday and didn't see any birds yet attempt the new bath. And it's just pouring rain here and will continue all day... pretty much the story for the next several days ahead.

That sidewalk was poured about 2 years after I moved in. We had ran out of money literally just getting the doors on the house, so it was a few years later that I actually got a sidewalk in the front and back. I love the look of new concrete.

Will keep you all informed when the birds decide to cool off!
