Mom Wood Duck is busy

She is singing and eating egg shells like crazy today.(We have a camera in the box)

I know she has more than 20 eggs under her. Will try and record them when they jump and can get a better count when they jump.

Second box is due to fledge in just a few more days.

Here is a video of Mom today-eating the egg shell of one of the ducklings. If she eats all of the egg shells, she will be one full duck.
Wish us luck at getting the video of her and the little one's tomorrow.

That is a fascinating video Connie. It appears so difficult for her to eat them, and yet she is determined. Love your videos! Can hardly wait to see them jump this year. Do they only have one clutch per year?

Elly they looked to be pretty well feathered out and were swimming well all together. They did come back to the shore for a rest but then they took off again. They were a bit smaller than BB babies at fledging. There was another Mom duck that went by with a bunch of babies about the same size but she did not respond to these babies peeping. We were considering taking them home (the neighbor raises chickens) but ducks & chickens are like apples & oranges. Then releasing them back in the lake once they had grown a bit.We are going to go kyack around the lake looking for a Mom with 5 babies.

You need to make it a little better than its competition, whatever you decide. If it's an as-is, it should be the best as-is in the area. If it's a fixed-up ranch house, it should be the best fixed up ranch house in the area. I personally prefer to fix places up before I sell them. There's value in any work you do. You can figure out what a house like that would sell for in its current state, and then what it would sell for if you painted it, refinished the hardwood floors, fixed the bathrooms. I bet it would be worth fixing. If you could post pictures, we could give you ideas. I agree with what someone said about painting the paneling creamy white, not builder's white. I've painted paneling before and used a warm cream color. It looked fantastic. Do a careful job on the paneling otherwise it will look like cheap painted paneling. Use the right primer. What state are you in?

Kendra,according to the CORNELL Lab of Ornithology --The Wood Duck is the only North American duck that regularly produces two broods in one year.--
We have second batches, but I always thought they were the ducks that lost their first batch.
Mom is keeping them warm right now and have not heard her eat any egg shell this morning, so hopefully the little ones will all be strong enough to climb the wall when she does decide to take them out into the Big World.

Sorry I do not have video (that's hubby's job and he has been to busy to put it into the computer).
Mom left a little after 11 am yesterday and 24 babies jump right behind her. She was on the pond for about 1/2 hour then took them up on the bank and rested for 15 min. and then off into the woods she went.
There were 4 eggs left in the box, so she could have had 28 little one if they had all hatched.
