Orioles and Grosbeaks are in WI!!

Saw a Catbird this morning too so I was going to put some oranges and jelly out but forgot until I saw a male Rose Breasted Grosbeak. I figured if the Grosbeak was here the Orioles wouldn't be far behind. I was right, it was all of 10 min later that the Oriole showed up. I didn't want to scare anything away so I waited until they flew away and then put the jelly and oranges out. About a minute later the Oriole was back and went right to the jelly as expected. Snapped these two pics through the window.

Great news Donna! I have the other two for over a week now but no Catbirds yet. I wonder.

Last year I saw one male Rose Breasted GB. This year I saw 3 males and one female. Same with Oriols. Last year one male. This year 3. I think parents bring their offspring back with them. The GBs just pass through and nest further north, but the orioles nest here in NE Ok. My dad had one of the pendulous nests hanging from a tree in his front yard.

we have a walmart supercenter near here and they have watermelon for $3.97 per melon from south texas. when i cut it up i left a little extra on the rind and the grosbeaks and tanagers cleaned up the rinds the same day. no watermelon left so i snuck a few pieces from the bowl full in the refrigertor. and it went in a hurry too. Had company visiting and they ate what was left. not too bad to feed a crowd and a crowd of birds too.

After three weeks without one, I just spotted a female baltimore oriole hanging out in my yard. It must have seen all the feeders, but didn't stop at any of them. Maybe it will be back later.

Three orioles, one female and two males, just stopped at my feeder for grape jelly. This is the first time I've ever seen three at once.

dzyg, great pictures! Does the container holding the jelly have to be transparent in order for the orioles to spot it?

Great pictures! We have the Orioles here in southwest Missouri, but so far, no Grosbeaks. I had them very briefly last year.

I just put jelly on a flat saucer on a patio table right outside the window where the computer is so I can watch them. I take most pictures through the window. I took the screen off for the summer. The table might be 6 feet from where I watch. Lots of fun.
