What is a NABA house?

If you have martins, bluebirds and swallows, does this mean you have a lot of open area? Is there any woodland? Assuming you have woodland space, you can attract chickadees, titmice, nuthatches, and others but I am not familiar with species in Ohio. Hopefully someone in your area can help with specific species.

Chickadees have one brood and have already nested, so that's for next season, but titmice, wrens and nuthatches may have a second.

You'll get a lot of advice, this is just my experience. Our best luck with songbird sized bird house placement has been slightly inside the woodland edge. I tested placement right at the woods edge and none we placed in this manner were occupied, but one tree line inside the woods, the boxes were very active. 5-12' off the ground. Birds did not seem to care about height, it was based on me being able to reach them easily. They don't care if it's tree or pole mounted - I personally pole mount for adding snake guards. We have a lot of snakes!

The other issue that seems to make a huge difference with the birds was having a low tree or shrub within 6' of the box for the parents to perch on and which babies fledged to for quick cover on their first flight. The denser the better.

Bluebirds nest in my woodland placed boxes as well. It's really all the same rules as bluebirds except not as open space. Other species will want more cover close by.

On gourds, I hung two in an American beech - perfect bird foliage - for the heck of it, at 3' off the ground and had chickadees use it to my total surprise.
