New to bluebirding...and stressed.

Hello. I will try to keep this as brief as possible. I moved into my current home a few months back. I just loved seeing the beautiful bluebirds. (Had an appreciation for their beauty, but no knowledge of the "bluebird world") They were nesting in the boxes left by the previous owner. After finding 6 babies dead on the ground under one of the boxes, I began researching the possible cause. Wow, I had no idea. This began what has turned into weeks of research, reading, building new boxes, monitoring, and possibly, (probably) a slight(major) obsession. I feel such a responsibility to these birds.

During this time there have been the purchases of a pellet gun and mealworms (I can't believe I'm storing "worms" in my fridge"), window screen removal(that ordeal almost turned into the purcase of a baseball bat), sitting in hiding waiting for the hosp to return(I know my neighbors think I'm nuts), monitoring, record-keeping,...and the list just goes on. After weeks of trying, I finally caught the male hosp this past weekend. (I really thought that I had only one, because I never heard more than one annoying hosp sound @ a time.) Later that same day, I heard that sound again. Arggh......just when I thought I had made some progress. It was a female and 2-3 babies. (I had to run into the house and pull as many pics as I could find to help w/identification.) The pics, combined with that sound,......yes...they're hosp. And yesterday morning.....a male in the front yard, not too far from a mom blue sitting on 3 eggs. He is not as skiddish as the one that I had stalked for weeks...so hopes are high that I will get him soon. I do want to thank everyone on this forum for sharing their knowledge, experiences, and pictures. I have learned so much during these obsessed, crazed, stressed, and joyful weeks.
