A crushed urn and smashed plants(gee and a humongous tree laying over your garden)still are extemely upsetting and I always did admire the sun & moon not to mention your shed(maybe Brad can repair the shed?)! I know you'll find a way to salvage what you can and recreate what you've got~sniff~Earlier today I was viewing garden pics you'd posted and I was ooing and aahing at the results of your hard work. I hope the cleanup shows more things intact than thought. I hope you can get good sleep tonight. In regards to how I had time to post when the kids were little it was pretty easy because I would post at naptime~AJ napped all the way up to age 4 or at least had quiet book reading time. Both boys were very good at independant play so I could take a few moments to post during the day. I also would post at night because Chris was often doing school work. These days we are more on the go in general plus when I'm working the idylls went to the back burner-unfortunately. Poor Chelone-and Rex! I hope your boss is understanding and things go well. ; )I will drink some wine for you-it's the least I can do... Hey Nev, just loading some pics now of that brom with the roooooly long name(in my eyes)LOL When photographing it i noticed it had a fair amount of fly speck scale...dam dam. But when i do buy from that lady alot of her gardens have it and broms so they stay in a group at my place till they are sprayed..anyhow..... Here is a side view of it, its just a cut pup The top view is not showing alot of colour right now as its come from a place where it does not see alot of light and is overly fertilised, so im suspecting it is not the colour it is supposed to be at the moment Jennie Jennie Jennie, I found a few broms that i got from you, some recently and some a while back Yang *love it* something or rather flowered and is pupping Mexicana? OOOHHHHHHH he is the man on the grandstand, I love it so much. Its the biggest brom ive recieved via mail order ever, but has certainly tripled in size.May I ask how much light he can handle? does he look spindly or too green? Im being careful with him as i dont wanna burn him. he is the bright sunlight green section, but i was thinking he could handle the cream cloth too and be in more light? And this pendulant guy too has a pup ready to cut there is a grasshopper that loves to munch on it...grrrrrr I know i have heaps more from you, but seeing as though I just moved and shuffled all my broms around they are hard to find at a quick glance....in fct ive lost alot of broms in the shuffle, they are there somewhere but im not used to all their new homes yet...LOL....Its a surprise in every corner

I am pleased that this thread is still alive. As so many people are waiting for results I should talk a bit about trying to get as many healthy cuttings as possible. You will soon find that many cuttings will grow leaves furiously as end of Winter approach. At the first break of Spring there are still cuttings thath ave no sign of growth at all. These cuttings should be removed in my opinion just because it will be hard to keep these into the heat of Spring when they are so late (without roots). This will free up some space for the promising ones to survive. Next you will find that they grow nice leaves but they do NOT have roots at the bottom. Don't pull up to have a look. I suspect that there is some relationship between the mix and the base of the cuttings helping them to get a little extra moisture into the cane. If you pull them up, you lose this formation. At this point in time they like gentle air flow, warm morning and cool night. They like a little bit of indirect early morning sun light but no more than 1-2 hour. The major problem the cuttings will face is sudden variation of temperature. In some regions of the world, the difference between day and night, and normal day and hot day is about 15 - 20 degrees C. That's just insane for rose cuttings if the top temperature reaches above 30C like many parts of Australia early in Spring. Dryness of the air can be a problem too in hot days. The only to counter this is to set up a timer to automatically spray them every 1/2 hours for a few seconds. If the weather is a bit too warm, they would grow too fast without the roots! Remember that the top couple of leaf sets have to mature before they will help rooting with enough sap flow to the base. This growth takes up the reserved energy and water. There is only one chance. If the leaves won't mature and generate sap flow, there will be no roots. The cuttings will just grow and burn itself out like depleted batteries. Therefore very slow growth rate is the key to sucess. Fertilizing will kill them. If you spray them with a little soluble fertlizers, they will grow beautiful leaves and within a few days deplete all the reserved energy and water and die!!! So never fertilise them and never use a mix that has fertilisers. When some of them already have some roots, what can happen? Many things I am afraid - When you see roots at the bottom, the chance is that many cuttings have roots and many still don't. If you are willing to destroy the ones that don't have roots then you can start fertilising them a little by spraying soluble fertlisers on the leaves or putting inorganinc fertliser pellets into the pot and water it. Otherwise wait another 2-3 weeks while you SELECTIVELY spray the cuttings that are most likely to have roots (you can tug them a little to feel the resistance) The reason why you would want to fertilise the rooted ones now is because the mix has no nutrients. They have drained all the reserved energy in the canes in order to grow leaves and root. They desperately need feeding but indiscriminate feeding will harm other cuttings that don't have roots. Finally you need to pot them out and discard the ones that are not healthy or don't have roots (or put the ones without roots back after you have taken other ones out). This is the time when you really appreciate the use of sand! You simply use a gentle water jet to wash the sand away and get the cuttings with 95% of the young roots in perfect condition. These rooted cuttings should be in water at all time until you pot them out individually. You should notice that young feeders are easyto break, bruise and rot. Again you should use sand as part of the potting mix. Rich potting mix goes in first. Normal potting mix goes in second. A bit of sand in third. Then the rooted cutting gets in. Some more sand in. Then normal potting mix fill the pot. Why 4 layers of mix? The bottom layer is rich with nitrogen which is good once the roots work their way down the bottom of the pot. The next layer is normal mix. Then the sand layer surrounds the young roots that need a relatively clean environment to avoid rotting away. It's a common mistake to use only one layer of potting mix and risk burning the young roots or having little nutrients for their development later. I have a guess about why many own root roses are sickly for a while until they get a bit older. My theory is that it depends on the rose type. Most modern roses have a life for a cane about 1-2 years. Some of them are even shorter. The aging of a stem is rapid in excessive heat and poor nutrition as it does not generate enough sap flow then bulk to keep it young. So when you root roses, the cane is effectively "old" by the time they have roots and become independent plants. This why they are sickly until they get around to renew themselves. The renewal process depends on sap flow and creation of new bulk (new wood). That's why I have a theory that the "effective" age of a plant or a stem of a plant is the ratio of new wood versus old wood. The bigger this ratio the younger it is. This process take time. It really helps to have lots of leaves growing rapidly. That's why it's better to grow rooted cuttings in shady areas for them to get more leaves. It also help to occasionally spray them with soluble fertilisers to encourage leaf growth during the first 2 months to build up sap flow down the main cane to the roots.

Bellsmom, that is how I feel about my top corner cabinet. It is useless as it has that hidden useless space. Despite my cabinets being builder grade, I love my two lazy susans and want now Super Susans in my new Kitchen. This kitchen designer I am working with is getting me upset by how he does not leave his designs here so I can make changes and how he has no clue how important things are to me like the other kitchen designer that did not come here to measure. The kitchen designer in 2011 and the kitchen designer earlier before this guy both did not take the time to come here and told me to find an installer to measure but they used my measurements and came up with designs with Super Susans and no blind cabinets. If this designer would have not taken 6 weeks to give me a print-out when he came back with an installer and IF he would have left it here for me to look over and make changes instead of finally mailing it to me when he saw he lost the sale, I would have ordered my kitchen already with the many changes that I wanted. The installer was quick in getting me an estimate as he works independently and he is the one that called the kitchen designer that is only selling the cabinets about how unhappy I was and then the Shiloh price increase was able to be moved up again when he knew he did not have the sale. He finally drops off two sample doors in two of the white colors on Saturday when I had a client here but no changes yet in the blueprint with the 1 hour phone call to him Friday night about how he is not doing what I want and the many changes I need that makes his original design useless. I am now thinking of waiting until after tax season despite the price increase to be sure I get what I want. I may need to deal with a kitchen designer that realizes I am not going anywhere and to not hide anything so we can work on getting me a kitchen that I will love and not one that he thinks is good. He is again pressuring me to decide by Monday again or the price goes up as he got a special with a discount place he deals with to lock in the Shiloh price before the increase. I still have not picked out my counter and that matters with what color cabinet I want as it needs to tie in with the counter and the floor tiles I bought already. The counters I thought I wanted to go with at the end of 2011 may not be right as my taste has been changing and I see that the floor and cabinets and counter needs to all tie together. Your post makes me realize that I am changing my cabinets not just for looks but for space and usability and I need to do it right. My client arrived so I have to read this edited post over to see if it makes sense. I did not sleep last night and I am having dental pain.
