I've had a fabulous turnout of migrating warblers, etc this fall! Or maybe because I'm too pooped to do anything but sit at the window and stare, I'm seeing more this year. I still have hummers, even a few males although it's mostly females and younguns. Around here they say to leave your feeders up until end of November, that it won't keep the ruby-throats from migrating and there are more and more sightings of west coast hummers who end up on the east coast in late fall and early winter. There was an Anna and a rufous hummer in Ohio in the last two years. One showed up in December and stayed until the middle of January. Nobody is quite sure why there is an increase of these hummers but there are more and more reports each year. It would be fun to see a hummer in December but I'm afraid I would worry myself sick! Most of my summer birds are still here. The wood thrush no longer sings (sniff, sniff) but I still hear his little "Pip, pip, pip". I've seen both the summer and scarlet tanagers in the last week - both had molted into their winter colors -why can't they show themselves in their pretty summer attire? I've added two new yard birds this fall - a warbling vireo and a yellow-bellied flycatcher which is one of my rarest yard birds. I've had a nice variety of warblers so far - american redstarts, bay breasted, black-throated green, black-and-white, blackburnian, black poll, blue-winged, canada, cape may, chestnut-sided, magnolia, ovenbird, prairie and tennesee and vireos - red-eyed, warbling, white-eyed, and yellow-throated and a swainsons thrush. I also had a juvenile rose-breasted grosbeak, not sure if it's a migrant or from the pair that I saw this summer. I do love see the fall migrants but I am really going to miss summer ... and the mosquitos and the heat and the drought ....

Three--good idea to go look for slabs first. It might help in your situation. I've always wanted white cabs. I even painted the old, dark, dingy, 70's cabs in my house white 11 years ago to hold on until we could do a full reno like we're doing now. Someone here suggested gray cabs to my recently instead of white. Now, the more I see gray cabs, the more I love them. Did you see Flatwater's thread with his yummy gray cabs?? And reading your thread has me starting to question what color I really want also! As far as marble goes, I wanted to say that I fell in love with a couple of marblicious gray Carrara slabs. Yes, I have a messy DH who sometimes "cooks" and two small children. I'm doing it anyway. Read the hundreds of threads here about marble. If its sealed well, it won't stain. You will get etching, but the etches I have on my sample of unsealed Carrara are only visible if I lean down and look at it in just the right angle. If you find some slabs you like, get a sample to bring home and experiment. I don't think you're crazy for wanting marble at all. I really like Bianco Antico granite...for a granite. I just couldn't pull the trigger to put a slab on hold because deep down I knew it wasn't what would make me truly happy. The Carrara does that. However, if those pretty white-ish quartzites were more available in my area and weren't so expensive, I may have gone that way. Less or no etching. Off to contemplate gray vs. white cabs! Thanks so much for the input on that wall! Here is where we are at now (at least for the time being :) ). We decided to change the bar wall into the family room just to a large opening with half walls and columns for the support (perhaps something like niffy's kitchen/family room?). We want to keep it open but just don't know if we will use those cabinets, sink, etc enough to make it worth the added cost. Plus, with every design change I seem to be just adding $$ so I need to streamline. So, keeping that very simple with no cabinetry, I think I do want some cabinetry on the blank wall - but I do want to keep it simple with perhaps a combination of open shelves for cookbooks, etc but also some more concealed space for the "clutter" - mail, etc. Still haven't decided on the finish or the look, but now that I've got the other layout pretty much figured out I'm going to talk to some of the cabinet designers this week and see what they come up with for that space... will keep you posted. Still having trouble with the fridge. It's just not a very wide space, and whenever I draw it up to be more of an armoire or integrated to go with the rest of the room, it ends up looking tall and skinny... I also *may* be able to get a deal on the 48 pro subzero fridge above that mahlgold posted above (which is making my DH so happy just thinking about!) so I've been trying to figure out what that would look like... it's so beautiful on it's own, but height-wise I think we may need some cabinets above it to go with our layout and not just be door, fridge, door all at ~7 feet. Even with it being a deal, it would still be a splurge so I would want everything to look right. It seems to never end :)
