One more night in the screen tent last night with beautiful, clear stars before rain started this afternoon. Forecast says the next sunny day is next Tuesday

I had a substitute teaching job, so hurried through the woods this morning, frustrated as I heard Magnolia, Blue-winged, Prairie, and Kentucky Warblers everywhere. I struggled through the brush off-trail trying to approach close enough for a photo, but no dice.

While sitting against a tree I heard a crash behind me and half-turned to see a pair of male Hooded Warblers grappling and rolling around in the leaves about 20 ft away. But before I could get my camera turned around, they dove into a brush pile, still fighting.

By then I'd run out of time and began hurrying down the mountain. Glimpsed a flash of red high above me-a male Scarlet Tanager!

I retrieved the SD card from the Cuddeback camera on the bank of the pond to photograph the Wood Ducks during the day when the flash wouldn't frighten them.

After over a month of getting nothing, the game cam FINALLY saw some action

They may resemble tiny Wood Thrushes, but are actually Wood-warblers, the same as Common Yellowthroats

Also Wood-warblers, Hooded Warblers were singing, "I'm a hoo-ded war-buh-ler!"
