The house sparrow eggs I have seen are pale bluish green speckled with brown. Not sure if there are variations

And the Dee eggs I have seen were speckled with an almost maroony-brown color. I think it would be easier to know by what type of nest was built. If the box is stuffed full of grass, plants, trash, etc. and has a dome over it, then it's a HOSP nest. But if it's got moss, lined with soft fibers, then it's a Dee nest.

Yhe bottom of this nest is lovely moss. I know that part is a Dee's nest. The eggs I think are Dees but there are no Dees going in and out. The top of the nest is covered with insulation and other junk. I think the eggs are no good and the HOSPs built a nest over the Dees.

Now, what is the best course of action? Take the eggs and nest out of the box? I have not seen the HOSPs yesterday or today.

If you do not know for sure if the Dees are going in and out you should leave the nest alone. They can be very sneaky and you are just not seeing them. Maybe could you post a pic of this nest. It is actually illegal to disturb the nest of a native bird. If the Dees are still around you could put up a wren guard after the first egg is laid to keep wrens and hosps out. If you have boxes up you should be eliminating the hosps or they will cause you greif down the line.

If you haven't seen the HOSP, maybe they found another nesting spot. I would take the junk out so as not to freak out the Dees, and see if they come back. Like bbcathy said, the Dees can be quite sneaky, and often times you won't see them much. Watch out for the HOSP, and give the nest time to see if the Dee eggs hatch.
