When we moved here to our country home (converted barn) it was a couple of weeks before Christmas. That first Christmas morning my husband and I woke up to snow, beautiful fluffy sparkly snow. We have 11 pine trees surrounding the barn. Of course the snow covered the pine branches. I looked out the front window , and there sitting on one of the pine branches was a bright red Cardinal. It looked like a Christmas card, all white with some green and red. I wish I would have had a camera ready at the time. It was just so perfect. It gave us that warm fuzzy Christmas feeling. As we sat and drank a cup of Hot Cocoa and a Christmas cookie. I hope we have fresh snow for Christmas this year. patti

The babies are coming to the feeder every day. Each day I turn on a low sprinkler for them. about 8:00 last night they flew to the patio singing loudly for the sprinkler. They are beginning to get color on the tails and growing taller top knots. Looking more like pre-teens. Yesterday a jay chased them off the dish of seeds. The Daddy puffed up so big and attacked the Jay. Another male showed up, so we called him Sonny. Then another female began flying in to join him, so we named her ....ta da.....Cher. Daddy chases them away when he sees them. Very territoral. Maeve chases the whitewings away and has learned not to chase the cardinals. We just started saying "no red" and she would stop.

Marvin's type of construction allows for very high Design Pressure ratings. The high DP ratings allow one to make a general assumption that a window or door is very well built, or otherwise structurally sound. Other manufacturers that provide similar types of construction include Eagle and Kolbe. These two other companies may be able to provide such a large operable picture window. However, keep in mind that there is a lot of faith placed on the hardware that will suspend or hold such a large operable sash to the frame. Heavy winds could potentially cause major hardware problems if the wind grabs the large surface area of the sash. I'm sure many companies would be willing to provide such a large operable window, but a purchaser should ensure that the window hardware is properly designed, or that venting window may no longer operate in the long term.
