I tried to put in the code to make your image show up here, but it gives me an error message that says that image is already posted on the forum. I'm not sure how to bypass that. What you need is the img src tag and beginning and ending brackets, plus quotation marks around the location. I know that won't make much sense, but try right clicking on someone else's image and click on properties. That should show you how to do it. Hope this helps. Sorry about your birds. Do you have a hole in your overhang that makes a cavity for the Blues? If so I would plug the hole so they cannot nest there as it isn't a safe spot to nest. As far as the one left, the male will probably leave to find a new girl. They don't usually renest where there is a failed nesting however if you put up a properly mounted nestbox (conduit with a predator baffle) he may bring his new girl there to nest. Good luck. Donna

Hi Mary- the only other possibility that I can think of is if something happened to one of the original mates & the remaining one found a new mate, the new mate will rarely have anything to do with the eggs/babies since they weren't their offspring. In this case, the new mate often steers the original mate away from the eggs/babies so they can try to produce their own (may not even try to produce since it's late in the nesting season). I would think it would be one of those scenarios. Research shows that it's about 10 degrees hotter in the box than it is outside. If it's in 90's, it could be too hot for them. Hatchlings can't regulate their own body temps for first 6 days. Risk would be same if too cold at beginning of season. If lawn pesticides (could be neighbor's if yard is close), babies are usually bloated. Did you notice anything unusual with them? Bloating or markings? Those are my only thoughts. Such a bummer & so sorry!

The male will not incubate the eggs. Its best to get rid of the eggs and hopefully he will find another mate and use the same nesting spot.
