Where do the blues go all day???

I am still learning about blue birds and curious...a pair have come taken over a nest box that carolina wrens had started on....they take several days to finish the nest and the last couple of days, I just see them in the morning and then they are gone all day long....where do they go???? An egg hasn't been laid yet and just curious. I have only had blues one other time and it seemed this way also....is this typical???

Yes, it is very typical for blues to only be around in the morning. This is their preferred time of day for nest building and egg laying. Where they go? Probably where any birds go - they would flit around their territory (about 2-4 acres for bluebirds) and hunt for bugs.

Bluebirds can build a nest in as little as 6 days and as many as 6 weeks. My pair took a solid two weeks to build their nest after investigating the box for a week. Eggs are laid one per day (usually up to 5) after the nest is completed.

So to answer your question - yes, very typical! :)

Here's one from things kids say: POLICE -- While taking a routine vandalism report at an elementary school, I was interrupted by a little girl about 6 years old. LOL!! Me too Ricky! I just "DO" my garden all day long. Kate, when I was getting spinal injections and I had to remain perfectly calm and still even tho the injections burned and hurt, I would take a deep breath and recite flowers/plants alphabetically until they were done...the pain management Doc was alarmed the first time to hear me whispering, then he finally got used to me rattling off plant names. They actually kept it in my chart where I left off last injection visit. They would tell me prior to the shot...start with dischidia!! Right now I wake thinking about my tomato seedlings daily...and dream about 'em too! When something consumes you, just be glad it's gardening!

Happy Mother's Day everyone. We will be having a cookout at Amber and Mike's with everyone pitching in and bringing food. We are not going to have ours until around five in the evening. I went to a Mother / Daughter banquet at our church this evening. Had a nice meal prepared by the men, I think mostly by the preacher. Had cubed steak with brown gravy, chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, green beans, cottage cheese and coleslaw. For dessert we had ice cream, sherbet and some little pastry things with fruit in them. Thank you for the color suggestions! All the walls in my house are the same light color and my living room has several different grays. Therefore, I'm trying to avoid gray, beige or white kitchen cabinets. There really is not much color overall in my house. I was trying to go bold but tasteful and semi contemporary with the kitchen. I'll really have to focus on the showrooms and colors I see in person as I continue with designers. Even though all the colors I see online look great I think they will just mislead me.
