Busiest Time of Year at Feeders?

I've had my three feeders (large tube, small thistle tube medium tube in cage), up for just over a week, and I'm amazed at how much seed the birds are going through. They run the feeders down to about 1/2 full or less daily. And this is with the weather still being unusually cold, damp and windy in the Chicago west area.

I started out with BOSS, then added some Safflower I had, and it all got eaten up pretty well. After a few days they didn't seem to mind the SAFF that much. The thistle feeder gets just that, Thistle.

I've just bought a 40lb bag of BOSS, so I should be good to go with that for a while.

I'm wondering what else I should add in other feeders in addition to Suet, once I figure out some additional good locations. Most of my trees are either too tall to hang anything from, or too small.

Plus, I'm wondering what are generally the busiest seasons at feeders? I'm thinking that I put mine out at just the right time, especially since the neighbor seems to have stopped filling his feeders a month or two ago.
