I can stop kvetching now

Hey, you all said so but I didn't believe you...well, maybe I believed you a little because I didn't take the nest out. So today, the first day in 2 whole weeks that I didn't check the nest this morning, and you know it, there's an egg in there. Should I wait til morning to put the wren guard on? the wren has been putting sticks in one of the other boxes and hasn't been near this nestbox.

How cool, now if I were you though, I would get that wren guard up asap. I almost lost my Dee eggs thinking I would wait until tomorrow. Good luck!

Yes Anita Now and make sure it has sides and it covers the hole well.

cwidene - Not sure what's wrong with the soil but the grass does not grow very well. I'm planning on getting a soil test. We bought the house last winter so this is my second spring in the house. Having just moved in last year I didn't have a lot of time to do anything outside except cut the grass and a lot of clean up. According to the neighbors that I talk to the previous owners cut the grass like 2 or 3 times a year because the town made them. I'm not expecting a perfect lawn this year or even next year but I want to get it on it's way. garycinchicago- Get off you're horse. So I did not learn anything..what makes you say that? You have no idea what my yard looks like or what the ground feels like yet you say that core aerating is bad. Why? From what I have been reading it seems like a lot of people say it's a good idea to loosen up the soil before seeding. Sure, maybe the spring was the wrong time to do it but I have a lot of bare spots and wanted to get something down. Last fall dandelions were the last thing on my mind so now I am trying to deal with them now. In stead of being a jerk, how about trying to help someone who is trying to get started on his lawn. Some people on here seem to think they are superior to others because they may know more then someone else, some people are very helpful.

I was taking .9 Premarin and medroxyprogesterone for 1 and 1/2 years and my doctor stopped the medroxyprogesterone for 10 weeks due to my weepiness. My hot flashes returned, so I was instructed to take the medroxyprogesterone again. Took for 10 days and now having a heavy period after not having had one for 3 years. Can anyone help?

The garage is one story so new roof would be required. Since the current roof is about 3 years old, if I do this, I would wait for few years (so I don't feel too bad about replacing that roof). There is no ceiling in the garage. If the cost of moving plumbing is prohibitive, another option is keeping the master bath roughly where it is, just enlarge it, moving the plumbing few feet to accommodate an enlarge shower stall and use the new addition for the bedroom that the master bathroom borrow the space from. Thank you for the replies because as I can get a better idea of the break down of the cost, percentage wise, I can adjust our planned usage for the addition. For now, for the addition, my wish list has an enlarged master bath, a laundry room, an office. I am afraid my idea of a master bath is bare bone, i.e no marble floor, no fancy bidet, no sitting room, no entertainment center and all of the fancy thing that people may put in the master bath. But I wonder if the future buyers would expect those things to justify the 100K.

TMG, I tumble my glass (in my double barrel tumbler from Harbor Freight) for 30-45 minutes. I put enough water in it to cover it at least 1/2" and then a drop of dish detergent. Then I rinse it in a strainer and it is very finger friendly and clean. I really like the difference in tumbled glass on 3D items. It's just a real plus on flat surfaces. Well worth the money IMO.

Hey all, I put the wren guard on and watched for a while. The male made several attempts to go into the box but the female just sat on top pecking at the cardboard. I waited a good while but neither one of them got it. So I removed the guard to allow her to lay her egg. She did lay a second egg and I have put the wren guard back on. Hopefully they will figure it out before night. If not, I will remove it again in the morning for her to lay the next egg. I have a feeling she is a young bird, maybe a first year. I hope all goes well with them, silly kids.

Anita, last year I had a pair of Blues that would not accept the guard. I am thinking because it had sides on it and they couldn't see the hole. Does yours have sides on it? If it does can you take the sides off just until you can see they accept it and then put the sides back on. Just a thought, hopefully it will work.

Hi Donna, the left side is completely covered but the right side is cut down so that the hole should be visible. I used this same home made type of get-up last year. If they don't get it by this evening I will cut off a little more so that it's more visible.

Ok so it's 2:30 - I just saw mom on the nest and dad brought her a bite to eat so they are ok with the wren guard. I did cut a little more off the left side so they could see where to go. They tend to perch on the sprinkler pole on that side so I figured it made sense to make that side a little more accessible. And as luck would have it the box that the wrens are using is way off to the right side of the yard, so maybe they will stay way over there. The box that is paired with that one, though, is being used by TRES. Do I need to be concerned about their safety? I walked up to that nestbox where the male TRES was sitting and I got as close as three feet away and he didn't budge. What a fearless little bird! Will the wrens harm them or are they better at fending them off than the bluebirds.

It's Monday and she laid her 4th egg yesterday. It's pretty cool here today and she was sitting on them this morning (no new egg) so I think she might be incubating. Good news. The swallows have been guarding the other nestbox with all their might but there is not a single piece of nesting material in the box. The wren is busily building up sticks every day in the third box. I remove the top layer every once in a while. I hope this will keep him busy for some time. I haven't seen any actual nesting material with the sticks. Does the female usually complete the nest on top of the sticks? I'm keeping a close eye on it.
