That is spraying/marking territory behavior. Usually cats mark on vertical surfaces and do that tail-quiver thing. When they are having urinary issues, they urinate like normal, squatting, just out of the box. Best thing to do to prevent the spraying from happening is to talk to your neighbors about the negative effect her cats are having by coming on your deck and window. You may have some leash laws to back you up. Also mention how you know many cats are dumped into the humane society for spraying problems, and her cats are causing that very problem (not that you would dump your cats, but she may not know that). As long as your cats see her cats, it's probably going to be a problem. The other solution, which I don't like because it isn't fair to your cats, is to prevent them from seeing outside. In the meantime, clean the sprayed area with an enzymatic cleaner. That will eliminate the odor even to the more sensitive kitty nose. You can also try Feliway spray, which is a phermone spray that helps calm cats down. I'm not sure how well it will work though if your kitties can still see her kitties. Good luck with everything. It can be very frustrating.

I actually like the horse the best. I have these in my home: 2 clerestory windows and 2 flat spaces above the 2 closets in the entry. We choose to ignore them. We did try plants once; however the sun and heat up there made short shrift of them. i like the horse because it adds a touch of whimsy, relates to your horse painting, therefore makes the area look more like an area to display an additional part of the collection, and looks less contrived. Be aware, though, that sun and heat will damage anything you put up there, so don't use anything too precious to you.

I would leave all, or most, of the feeders up for a little longer since you'll still be getting migrants coming through from north of you. Better to have too many feeders than too few. Even if you don't see hummers for a few days there will probably be stragglers, maybe juveniles that aren't sure what they're doing and really could use the food. When I get migrants I seem to see them mostly in the late afternoon when they stop for the night, and then again the next morning when they fuel up for the day's journey. Please keep at least one feeder up until the end of September, maybe later. A few years ago I got a hummer visiting in late October. Luckily I'd kept one feeder there. Claire
