Help, need to make quick sofa decision! 2 contenders
Comments (5)I got an Ektorp chair for free from someone who was getting rid of it. It is surprisingly comfortable. However their pug sat on the back cushion for several years and this created an unfixable dent. (My cats adopted this dent as their own.) Ikea does not sell replacement cushions. Despite this the chair is still comfortable and in good condition. If I really wanted to I could get new cushions made at a foam shop, because you can remove the slipcovers. In my view this is also handy for keeping the chair clean. Remove the slipcover from the dryer when still slightly damp and put it on immediately, this makes it easier and less wrinkled. I have no experience with the other sofa. However I have had several cheap pieces made of bi-cast leather (a chair from Fred Meyer, dining benches from World Market) and was severely disappointed in how fast the foam inside broke down with use. I mean, crazy fast! And on my furniture, there is no way to replace that foam. So the pieces became uncomfortable junk quickly. So check out the construction and consider that when making your decision. Believe it or not, the Ektorp may win in terms of durability. You might try googling for reviews of each sofa. I am confident you will find many bloggers who have reviewed the Ektorp - it is a very popular Ikea classic. If you are lucky you will find some reviews of the Cindy Crawford too. A few other thoughts: How does it work to have 4 people on a sofa that has two reclining sections? That seems a little tricky. My ex had an old reclining sofa that I absolutely hated - it had sharp things poking out with age and the metal frame was easily felt through the padding. It prevented us from snuggling because the frame was in the way. And it was ugly. And, it was kinda broken in the reclining department. I must say visually I prefer the Ektorp. And theres less stuff to break on it. Hope that helps.......See MoreNeed quick decision on CL black leather sofa?
Comments (8)Never ending....your right cheap junk wears out quickly. That's kinda why I was thinking of not owning a matched set.....couch-loveseat-chair-ottoman. I paid $3k for the last set 18 years ago. Then I felt stuck when I hated it. The cushions unzip & velcrow, for easy restuffing and reupholstering....I just want to throw it out!!!! BTW....DH loved it! Every time you sit down the seat cushions slid forward and tried to throw you off the couch. So then I'd stand up and karate chop them back into place. :0) The leather scratched and the grey underneath showed thru, no white shoe polish would stick to it. The couch could be replaced often and still keep the ottoman and club chairs combo. :0) Just a thought........See MorePlease help us make a decision about a sofa
Comments (8)We have the EA Arcata sofa and I regret the purchase every day. We got all the most expensive cushion upgrades/options, and frankly, I don't think the sofa looks much better than the darn IKEA EKTORP we had when we were first married. Admittedly, my husband sprawls on it, but the cushions always look terrible. And they slide out of place very easily. I'm always having to fluff, turn, and stuff them back under the back cushions. This is our second "grown-up" sofa purchase in ::cough:: five years. And I'm anticipating having to make another very soon. Granted, these aren't the most expensive sofas ever ($1800-2k range) but...it's disappointing. We had one sofa during my entire childhood. One. And when my mother was finally tired of it, it lived in a cousin's house for eight more years. I'm not asking for 25 years, but 25 MONTHS isn't too much to ask, is it? So, I would shy away from an EA sofa where I could not flip and fluff the cushions....See MoreSofa decision update and accent pillow help
Comments (11)I agree wait for the sofa for a better idea of what you want for chairs but I think something like this would go well. https://www.jossandmain.com/-200-36-062-L54-K~HKR6598.html?refid=GX93152643134-HKR6598&device=t&ptid=149277575818&targetid=pla-149277575818&gclid=Cj0KEQiA5bvEBRCM6vypnc7QgMkBEiQAUZftQHkacvJMeVqA4Ckj5gdpgxqdKAsBBQFwWFAWuVbUVBkaAkKF8P8HAQ Or one like this brings in colors from the shades https://www.jossandmain.com/Montpellier-Arm-Chair-WHI5677.html...See Moreclt3
