I do have a white garden a section of the whole garden, if you don't count the coral Lycoris radiata in August nor the pink Crinum that I cannot kill nor the Spring and Fall crocus. It is unlike Vita's in that hers included many grey leaved plants to extend the effect. My leaves are an emphatically green background for the flowers, Taxus media, Vinca minor (white flowered), Nandina (white berried), Daphne odora marginata, Skimmia japonica (white berried), and the various leaves of flowering plants, roses, ('Katharina Ziemet', 'Blanc Double de Coubert', 'Sombreuil', 'Ilse Krohn Superior', 'White Pet', 'Mlle de Sombreuil', and 'White Maman Cochet' - 'Bolero' died but will be replaced in multiples), Helleborus niger, H.xhybridus and bulbs, Tulipa 'Purissima', Narcissus 'Thalia' and Colchicum autumnalis alba. The Gardenias, Citrus trees and Tabernaemontana grandiflora (an unfussy gardenia relative) reside in this patio garden in the summer so I guess that's more white. Cath

Last Sept was the first time we had ever seen "swarms" of hummingbirds on our feeders. We have 7 feeders and the 3 that hang in front of our sunroom windows would be completely full--a hummer at EACH opening -- with others hovering above waiting their turn!! It was a sight to behold! At the same time, some would be zooming across the yard to the other feeders that would have 1 or 2 on each of them. All feeders are in our small backyard. The 3 feeders at the windows are about 20 ft apart. We estimated 30 hummers but it was only an estimate. They would zoom over the roof, then back into the yard, then into the trees. We would sit in our lawn furniture facing the windows and just watch the show. My sister would make it a point to come by as soon as she got off work so we could watch together. Needless to say, we are just counting the days until Sept to see if it happens again! I have had 3 hummingbirds for awhile this summer. Can't wait to see what Sept will bring.

thank you! Iôve attached a pic of the popsicle bird feeder. One of those Pinterest things. Thank you for the advice, I was thinking to change the feeder, but thought first to try and get a different seed mix. What I got supposedly does not attract doves, but they there were....bullying the poor cardinals that wanted to come. I read that somebody posted once that the doves are scared easily. Not where I live. I actually have to go out and make a scandal before they just jump on the fence and watch me from there. Iôll try changing feeders...no fun watching doves eat my seeds.

here the finches eat the thistle or nygier seeds before anything else. I tried the net socks but they spilt too much. so i mix the thistle with millet and put it in the tube feder. I put a mix of cracked corn millet and boss in the small platform feeder which is mostly sparrows and juncos and a few finches and the chickadees and one lone flicker that eats from it twice a day. The other woodpeckers and the nuthatches and chickades eat on the woodpecker block mostly but do eat some from the homemade suet tray. the big plaform tray is loose nuts and corn and raisen and dried fruits and is mostly bigger birds. During the spring and summer i have necter feeders for the hummingbirds and orioles and a fruit tray for the grosbeaks and orioles I have some pine rounds stood on end like stumps and spread mixture of seeds and bread scraps and nuts on them and get a whole variety of birds on them. and the ground feeders cleanup everything that is spilt or dropped on the ground. the juncos and towhees normally eat on the ground but do try the stumps and feeders at times. The doves and jays and magpies eat on the stumps and the ground. I am lucky that i only get the red wing blackbirds in spring and summer because they eat a lot of everything. The starlings come through here but don't stay long and a few cowbirds are here some summers. get a rare hawk or owl and a raven or crow once in awhile.
