Needing Help!!! ASAP!!!

I am the one who had problems with the dees in my bluebird house. I put up another house and the blues built a nest and laid 4 eggs. There are 5 baby dees in the other house now. Today I noticed the blues going in and out of the house with the dees in it. They were not hurting them, they were feeding them. I quickly put up the hole reducer and now they can't get in. I looked in the box that the blues have and there are 2 babies and 2 uhatched eggs. For some reason the blues are not feeding the babies at all. I looked at the babies and they don't look very good right now. I don't no if they are sick and the parents no this so thats why they are not feeding them. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do at this point? I really don't no if the other eggs are going to hatch. The first time these blues laid 4 eggs and they were infertile. I feel so sorry for them. I guess her instincts is to feed the other babies because she can hear them. She was not hurting them at all. Both the blues and the dees were feeding them. The baby dees were probably getting sick from all the food that they were getting. Thanks again for any advice.

Well lets hope they are still feeding their babies and you just aren't seeing it. Odd that they would feed the Dee babies though. How old are the baby blues (what day did they hatch?) and what makes you think they don't look good? Baby birds always play dead in the nest when you open the box, the don't actively move around and look at whoever opened the side/front or top of their home. Keep watching and see if the Blue do in fact go in their nestbox.

I looked in the blue box again and now there are 3 babies. There is only 1 egg left to hatch. I guess today was hatch day so that is why they are so lifeless. The parents are so busy feeding the dees, they are going to be really busy when it is time to fed their babies. So when should they start feeding the baby blues? Those dee babies are going to be so fat when it is time for them to leave the nest. Between their parents feeding them and the blues feeding them. I will continue to watch and see if they go in their own house. I hope everything goes well for the blues. Anymore advice I would sure appreciate it. Thanks everyone!

Thanks, David, but I figured this out thanks to advice from my KD. We moved the 2 cans to the other side of the joist. She had designed them to be 54" OC (9' ceilings, forgot that part of the formula when I was stressing yesterday) and in their new location, they'll be 57" OC. Close enough for the remodeling game. If we run into a similar situation for another room, I will definitely keep disc lights in mind.

You need to make that decision in your room with your light. What we see on our computer monitors may not look anything like what you see in real life. In fact the floor looks like a different color in your two photos, which should prove to you that it's impossible for anyone to pick the color for you long-distance on a website. What you could do is paint the walls the same white color as the trim. Also, are you painting before you install the new floor? Painting should come last.

@Mel Damron - so based upon your comment, I’m a difficult customer just because I wanted my shower pan to be built in accordance with the terms of the contract (which required that the work complied with applicable codes???!!??) I actually made this post in order to confirm whether the work had been done correctly or not BEFORE I discussed anything with the subcontractor. Not sure why a customer is labeled as difficult just because I wanted my shower pan to be installed correctly so it would pass an upcoming inspection (and drain correctly when used). Funny - considering that pros on Houzz + pros on John Bridge Tile Forum all told me that I needed to stop the work immediately because the subcontractor failed to install a pre slope before installing the pvc liner. Also, when my GC returned from out of town, he completely agreed that the sub contractor had failed to install the shower pan correctly. FYI - I am on great terms with my GC - and have engaged him for upcoming renovations for my kitchen, laundry room, powder room, wine room, staircase, plus adding a covered deck + new patio + firepit in my back yard. I also just gave him a car last weekend for his son. My mom passed away unexpectedly, and my sisters decided that I could do whatever I wanted with her car since I had given it to her for a birthday gift a few years earlier. My two daughters both have cars, and none of my nieces/nephews needed a car. I knew that my GC was looking fir a car for his son - and since he has taken care of me - and does great work - I asked him if he wanted it. It’s not a big deal - but between that and all of the new work he’s doing for me, it doesn’t seem like he would refer to me as a “difficult“ customer. Not sure why you felt the need to insult me.

Everything is fine....your Blues are just hatching....they flop around and lay face down at times, they cant hold themselves up yet and they do not need to be fed for a few days after hatching. They do look lifeless for awhile but it's a lot of work getting out of that egg! Mom will start feeding them small soft bugs when they are ready. Interesting that they are feeding the Dees though! Be very careful monitoring them at this time so they don't get chilled...they are naked!

I don't think I would let the Blues continue to feed the Dees. If they get attached to them they could prevent the Dees from taking care of them. I had Blues prevent Dees from fledging after their own babies fledged from a house nearby. They paid no attention to them until theirs fledged. I had to intervene so the Dees could take care of the babies. I'd put a reducer on the house.

Hi indigo. Wow. I have never in my life heard of such a thing. Blues feeding baby Dees..and when they have babies in another box nearby? Amazing. I think that you did just the right thing by putting on the hole reducer. Now, just keep an eye out to be sure that the Dee parents are feeding their babies still. Mom and Dad Blue should get busy feeding their brood too. Thanks for sharing this. I am amazed.~~Angie
