We've had a blue jay pair in our rhododendron. I've been watching since it's also about 6 feet from our front door, up against our house. I got mama a birdbath and food, which she never used. So her eggs hatched and I watched daddy feed her, and then her feed her babies. This was so precious. But now they're all gone. Could they be renesting? I've had my field cam on them but it's not revealing if daddy or mommy transported the babies. I havent seen any critters either. I was really hoping I would get to see the babies grow. I feel bad bc I am not sure if her babies made it. 😔

Put up a wren guard after the first egg is laid in your chickadee/bluebird/whatever nest. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just enough to obscure the view of the nest box entrance from the wrens. I make mine out of cardboard and duct tape. Take it down when the chicks are 7-10 days old. In 5 years of having chicakdees and/or bluebirds nest in my yard, with plenty of wrens around, never a problem.

I began thinking. The chicadees and the wrens and a hosp box and bluebirds were all doing okay. I did not want to remove the hosp box as it worked as the bluebird took one box and the hosp the other. Everyone was leaving everyone alone. If I took the hosp box down they would have retaliated. Actually they are still there with their babies. What I believe happened was that another Hosp and his girlfriend from another area whether on my street or wherever came looking for a box and thats where the trouble began or perhaps something ruined their nest and they retaliated. They came out of the blue onto my property. Now that is hard to control.

no these are both Blue Bird babies. They are in a cam box. I saw mom lay the eggs. Though I did not get to see this batch hatch,I did see the eggs at 10 pm and the 2 hatched babies at 10 am the next morning. Within minutes of my last post big baby girl nearly followed mom out of the box. They may be leaving tomorrow. The good news is that little boy blue (named by Donna)seemed to be visually following a fly today. I am not sure if he actually saw it or if he was just following the noise, but it was enough for me to think that he may be sighted. He seems perfect in every way except his size and eyes. Both babies were getting in some good wing flapping. I think if little boy blue can see, he is about ready for the world, he may be a bit "slow" but he seems to know he was meant to fly. I dont have to go anywhere till Friday afternoon so I can be on constant watch. I will let you all know.
