Wow, it looks like she left you the mother lode there, Sherry! ;-) I think the most I ever had in a bunch was about 24. They're my very favorite caterpillar to raise. I love to put a few lengths of vine in a big storage container and watch the cats scurry along on their way to somewhere that I guess they have in mind. They always make it look like it's urgent. Ha. That's a Carolina wren for ya, building a nest in such a strange place. One year I had a pair build a nest on one of the shelves in my workshop after those little opportunists sneaked in there a few days when I had the door open and made themselves right at home. I didn't shut the door again until after the babies fledged. I have bluebird houses stacked up in our corncrib and one year the Carolina wrens made a nest in one of them even with it turned upside down. My dad had one build a nest in his fishing net one yet. Out of all of the birds that I get here, I call them the most eccentric. :) They sure are cute little things and they love the peanut butter/cornmeal/shortening mix that I put out in a log feeder for them in the winter. Spring is here is southern Alabama too! Yesterday when I was putting water in the birdbath, the blues started dive bombing me. I looked inside the box and there were 5 beautiful eggs. Boy..was I suprised! I am so excited. The only question I have is...How many days until they hatch? I hope it is not to early for them. I have never had blues in the box this early. Last year the dees had the box first. I am really suprised that they didn't come back this year. I will keep everyone posted on the out come of this nest.

How far from your nest is your feeder. I put a small feeder close to the box with a new nest but I wonder if it should be farther away to avoid attracting other birds to the bluebird's area. I am glad to hear your birds are eating the dry worms. A friend gave me a package but I had doubts the dried worms would be eaten.

My female is sooo focused! First nesting fledged (6) on Thursday May 10th, I got the nestbox cleaned out asap because I know this female is very quick to start the second nesting (she is the same female we had the last two years). She started the second nest on Friday and laid the first egg this morning! I couldn't believe only four days inbetween fledging and laying another egg! Dad is still busy feeding the fledglings which are in our woods, haven't seen any of them yet, hopefully by this coming weekend I will get some glimpses of them and maybe tell how many made it. Two were non flyers so I am not sure about those two, especially with the mom focused on the second nesting and not on her fledglings. Donna
