Keep any eye on the eggs. I don't know how long you have had the snail, but the females can store sperm untill they want to lay eggs. Ramshorn snails can be very prolific. The golden snails that lay eggs above the waterline are apple snails. you do need to bring those into your aquarium in winter or they will die. If you take good care of them they can live for about two years. Applesnails reproduce by sexual reproduction, and can lay multiple clutches from one copulation. One could be fertle while another might not be. Once they hatch the babies are so tiny that you can barely see them, and if you have big fish in your pond they were probably eaten, before you even knew that they hatched. If you get more snails for your pond next year, when they lay eggs, wait for the clutch to harden ( about 4 days) then scoop them up. Roll the clutch up in a dry paper towel, place it in a ziplock bag with a damp paper towel that is rolled up in a dry one. (the eggs need humidity, but will drown if they get too wet)seal and float the bag on top of the water in your aquarium, after a few weeks of keeping an eye on it the babies should hatch. Keeping them in a breeder net is the best way to make sure that they don't get eaten. After about two weeks the babies should be about the size of a BB. My Bluebirds always lay five eggs for their first and second clutches. Last year when there was a third clutch, she only laid three. Five eggs is a pretty normal sized clutch. If she lays seven or eight eggs, that would be unusual. Congratulations on your five eggs. May they hatch and grow!

Hi! A couple weeks ago we noticed 2 Carolina wrens building their nest in our fern right outside of our kitchen window. We were so excited! Then a few days ago we no longer saw them around and sadly thought that they had abandoned their nest. This morning we were talking about removing the nest from the fern and when I peeked, I saw 5 eggs! Now we are concerned if they have abandoned their eggs :( Is this possible? We haven't seen them around at all. What time of the day do they incubate? Would it be possible that we are missing their timing? We are not morning risers. Agh! I'd be so sad if by any chance we scared them away :( We have been very respectful, however sometimes we would open the window. I do not know how long the eggs have been there. I thought that as soon as they were close to being done building their nest, they had left. Do they first build and then lay their eggs? Thank you so much!

I just got back from checking the box again. Still just the one little guy. He's starting to get those downy feathers now, and is definitely breathing and growing. He hatched on Sunday morning, so that's 4 days old now. The other two eggs are just sitting there, looking a little dull. I'm almost positive they won't hatch, but I'm going to wait until the weekend. My issue now is how to move the unhatched eggs. As luck would have it this nest is deeper than the other two were. This morning I also noticed some gunk on the back of the box (inside) right under the nest line. I think I should try to wipe it off before ants find it but I'm worried about that too. Figured I'd do everything at once. The parents were in and out of the box a lot yesterday afternoon so I really hoped I'd find 3 babies today. Brad is still super attentive, chasing robins away (but not the mockingbirds or titmice). They did eat more waxworms today but I didn't see them take any into the box. DONNA - I pick out the smallest waxworms and mix them in with a few bigger ones. If anyone can provide some guidance on how to move these eggs without hurting the little one it would be appreciated. It's supposed to be hot again today and tomorrow, with thunderstorms starting up tomorrow afternoon. It's going to be even hotter on Sunday and Monday, so I know if the eggs haven't hatched by Saturday I need to get them out or they'll cook.
