How to keep turkeys off birdfeeder?

My husband just built a large 'fly-through' feeder, that consists of a platform and a peaked roof to keep the seed dry. We know that once it is mounted on the pole, the wild turkeys will land on top and monopolize the scene (we've watched them perch on the neighbor's feeder).

Any suggestions for discouraging this behavior? We had thought of mounting a small weathervane on top. But I find they are rather expensive.

Btw, our turkey population is ridiculous. I counted 32 yesterday.

Thanks for any help you can give!
