Since you don't know the laying dates, you can't know if they're viable eggs. I think you must leave the nests intact, and begin now to keep notes on each nesting. They are undoubtedly 2 pair and if you are patient to watch you will likely see them somewhen. If not, a clutch becomes very unlikely to hatch after 21 days.

Is it possible for you to replace the precarious box with a safer one on the same pole?

Great suggestion about replacing the nestbox, Kenn. New2, you need put the nest/eggs gently into a shallow dish or container and replace that nestbox. Once the new box is in place, you can carefully transfer the nest into it.

As for the eggs, were they warm when you touched them? If so, they are being incubated. If not, Kenn's suggestion to begin recording your nesting observations becomes imperative. Write down the date you first noticed the eggs and then give them at least 3 weeks to see if they will hatch. You need to monitor the nest at least once per week during this time so that if they do hatch, you'll at least have an approximate date of when hatching occurred.

A note about handling eggs: the shells of bird eggs are porous. It is possible for bacteria from your hands to pass through the shell to the embryo inside the egg, which could potentially damage the developing baby. Make certain that you wash your hands thoroughly before touching eggs, and again afterwards. (I keep antibacterial wipes in my monitoring kit for just this reason.)

Thank you Griffin and Kenn!! I will keep anitbacterial wipes with me from now on. The eggs did seem cool to the touch in both boxes. But it was really warm outside so it is hard to say. I recorded what I saw today and will check again. I usually see a couple in the power lines every day and havent in a while, maybe because its cooler in the trees. Regarding the unstable box the way the nest is positioned I am not sure I can get it back into a new box. As these boxes have not been properly maintained in years and I am trying to undo the possible harm them just putting boxes up and leaving them to nature. There was one box I could not get to due too water, we just had a lot of rain and the trail I was walking became swamp like. I hope in a few days I can try again.

If you can't make the old nest fit, you could always shape a new one out of dried grass and simply transfer the eggs. You will never go wrong in recording your observations--I never trust things to my memory anymore. Keep up the good work and please keep us posted.
