I feel your pain! In late April I planted Yolande d'Aragon and Just Joey, among others. They have a few small leaves poking out, but have not shown any more growth in a couple weeks. I'm continuing to water and WAIT. The others are happily growing and look great. Fragrant Cloud did this to me last year and finally just quit and died. I think the growth I see now is from the nutrients provided from the roots it already had when planted. I don't think they've broken dormancy yet. Funny...those are the ones I go directly to every morning and check.

Pictures number 2 and 5 look the worst - I'd be very surprised if those roses are anything but dead by now. The others have at least one green cane, and as Jeri said I'd cut the dead canes back to live cane or the ground, whichever comes first. Pictures number 3 and 4 look like some of that green cane is trying to sprout something, but you're definitely not being premature by contacting the company. For what it's worth, I have to trim back most of the canes on most of the bareroot grafted canes I buy no matter how good the condition they arrive in. I watch them carefully for the kind of browning or blackening at the ends like your photos, then trim it back to beyond the brown at least an inch or two, and sanitize the pruners with each cut. I've posted about this before, and it's probably a case of verticilium wilt in the canes. The bareroot roses that survive are the ones that put out their own new canes - rarely are these much more than stubs of the canes they started with. Almost all of my bareroots planted in April look just like my band plants planted in May because of this, and they take equally long to come back from the planting and take off. Just letting you know it's not you - it might have a contribution from something in your climate or soil, and possibly a damaged or weak plant to start with that had the pathogen already in the cane. I understande that seed freshness has a lot to do with germination time. I am fairly sure that my seeds are relatively fresh. My question had to do with the "possible" moldy substance on my seeds that have been in moist soil for almost a month now. Should I be concerned? I am tempted to start a fresh batch, but I do not want the same results. I thought that if I soaked my seeds, planted in the correct soil medium, and kept the temperature right, that I would have seen better results by now. I pinched the seeds gently and they are still firm. I hope I am just over reacting. My second question still stands: On another note, what ph should I try to keep the soil of my canary date palms at? They are still on their 3rd leaf. Do you recommend granular fertilizer or liquid? Any brands you like more than others?

Well, They just started to ripen. They are getting a few hours of direct sunlight in the afternoon. Yea, these are the hot ones and turning yellow now. I just brought them inside last week for the winter. i moved and forgot to change the zone on here, now in zone 8 and we had a few nights where it got pretty cold so i brought them in. I am hoping to make some good hot sauce with these pepper. we'll see how it turns out
