Beautiful BUGS!

And SUNSHINE! I have never been so glad to have a fly buzz around my head! My TRES gal did not spend the night in the box like she has been doing and I feared she just didn't make it to the break in the weather yesterday afternoon. I still have not seen her but I inspected the box this morning and the nest is reformed, all neat and tidy and the eggs have been uncovered and placed in the center of the nest. It was not like that when I went to bed. The 2 eggs are a week old. She has not been incubating but was on them during the freezing nights. It will be interesting to see what happens now. Does anybody think those eggs may hatch? I don't think they will. I am hoping she starts laying again. I am just so happy that there is evidence that she is still alive!

Let's hope that the weather cooperates from now on. I'm so happy that you are seeing evidence of her being there. Let us know how it goes. My TRES only laid two eggs, and were not around much because of the weather. I checked this morning and a HOWR had destroyed them. I'm hoping once the weather warms up they will try to re-nest.

HOOOORRRAAAYYYY! Moma is back in the box in her usual position, looking out the hole. Now to see if she will begin laying again. I hope she does but I am just so happy that she is alive. It was so hard losing an adult and 3 babies last year. We are expecting good weather for the next few days, should be plenty of bugs for her to regain her strength. Kendra, did you take the nest out or just the eggs? I have read that TRES will reuse a nest after a failed nesting but you may want to confirm that with Bet.

Pick up a little tube of Afterbite Xtra - it really works. I picked up a potted rose bush that was home to some fire ants and didn't realize until they had covered my hand. I had seven bad bites and after treating with the Afterbite, I just ended up with one tiny blister, and no pain. I've used it on mosquito bites too, and no itch. The active ingredient is ammonia.

Nice post, Pondy. My group 3 clematis are in bloom and stunning, even though they are young. Clematis always make me smile. The coneflowers look fantastic this year and I have a new cross in my garden: I believe it is between White Swan and Ruby Giant. The color is a soft pink, but not dull. It grew up alongside the White Swan, so I have to separate them later in the season. Sundown is in full bloom - I love the color. Although Amsonia 'Willow Blue Star' has finished blooming, it has seed pods, which I just noticed last night. I know little about this plant and I wasn't sure it was going to do well in my garden, but it really took off this year. The blooms lasted a long time and now the pods - it's a keeper. The hosta are doing so well, even after moving them in late spring. I took the advice from someone on the hosta forum who said that before replanting, bang the root mass on the ground to loosen the soil somewhat. I am a believer. Of course, all the rain has helped too. Most of the daylilies are just starting to bloom. I love how daylilies add color to the summer garden. The bright, almost shocking pink asiatic lily is in full glory. My tomato plants make me smile too as does the rest of my new vegetable and herb garden. I've been trying to grow herbs in pots for years, but never had much luck, especially with basil. The basil plants are huge and the Thai basil is gorgeous. I'm growing peppers for the first time and actually have peppers growing. I'll really be smiling if I get enough of everything to can salsa and spaghetti sauce. The dwarf and mini evergreens I bought last year survived and are doing well. I'm limited to arbs and junipers because of the neighbors black walnuts, so having interesting varieties like 'Sherwood Frost' and the golds is exciting for me. Although many gardeners don't like junipers, I have Sea Green and think it's beautiful with its arching branches.

Thanks for the website Diana May I now know why they are here they love to build their nest out of clay and I have plenty of that and not just the red kind I have grey clay in my soil too as well as Pennsylvania fieldstone. Lisa, my TRES are back too! All five pairs in the yard, haven't checked the park yet. None were around at all yesterday that I saw. I have no clue about the eggs, I have a total of six (three in two different boxes) that I have to wait and see if they hatch. No new eggs today, wonder if there will be tomorrow??

Donna, I am hoping for a new egg tomorrow too but It may take a few days for them to recover from such a horrid week. I walked down to the lake and there are lots of Dragonflys, they should be good as new in a couple days!

Took a walk last evening down to the park to check the boxes. Sadly I think the 3 TRES eggs down there are no good. Either another pair took over the box or the adults decided to start over. There were a pair of TRES by the box but they didn't dive bomb me at all and when I looked in the three eggs were pushed down into the nest with some more nesting material on top.

The three Blues babies are looking good at the park though.

Here at home we have baby Dees. There were 7 eggs in the dead tree and I can count at least 5 babies but there could be more since it is so small in there. I am guessing they maybe hatched on Wednesday.

She has feathers! I turned on the cam and couldnt see eggs so I ran out as soon as she left and peeked. He 2 eggs are at the bottom also and the feathers are on top of them. Time will tell. Must mean the ducks have returned to the lake too!
