Absolutely!! You'll see little drifts of skins! That's very good news! I do not mist---too worried about mold. I have drawn boundaries regarding what I will and will not do to raise mealworms. I'm pretty overloaded as it is! Mine do fine with just veggies and cornmeal. At least I think they do! In a box that big, I usually put 4 little pieces of celery (or whatever) to supply each "quadrant." If they're that tiny, I don't know how far they can go to get food! Hope that helps, Ann

Thanks for the warnings. I haven't had any problems yet, but I'll be sure not to have too many in one place when they get bigger. When you put them into the fridge, so you let them in the cornmeal? When I bought some they were in sawdust. Sorry you lost some, I'm knocking on wood here!

Although I have a different feeder, ours is clamped to the deck rail, just outside the patio door. Even in the deepest snow, I can open the door and reach around to fill the feeder without even getting my feet wet. And I can see right through the window whether it is empty or not. The most important thing, though, is the safety of the birds. The deck is high enough off the ground, and cannot be climbed by predators. We do not offer seed feeders which are known to attract opportunistic hawks, etc. And we only offer a handful of mealworms 2 or 3 times a day to minimize "traffic". The bluebirds come and eat the mealworms and then move on, and no other birds are even aware of the offerings (no competition). I've given up on the photography though. Some of the folks here have posted such beautiful pics! They have more time, talent, and equipment than I could ever hope for. And I enjoy them so much! Now you be careful on that ice! Glad you got your shipments. I called and ordered another 5000 last night and discovered the price had gone up. I checked around and it appears everyone has. The shipping is expensive but I lost one shipment in this heat last year so guess I'll just have to pay. I'm afraid I'll need to cut back on the amount I feed them every day. I was putting out 200-300 mealies a day but I will have to cut back to 100-150. It is just getting too expensive. I have noticed one of the last brood is still coming to the feeder to get his share. Dad will usually try to keep him away from the meal worms as best he can so he and Mom can feed the latest brood up in the trees.
